LCHS girls bag McComb

MONTICELLO – Lawrence County made the best of Senior Night and knocked off the Class 5A region champion McComb Lady Tigers 5-2 Monday night. Freshman pitcher Elizabeth Smith pitched a 5-hitter, striking out 3 and walking 1.

“Tonight was Senior Night for us and I was very proud of the way our girls stepped up and played hard in their last home of the season,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “Our defense played well and our offense was solid.”

Offensively, the Lady Cougars finished with 6 hits, led by Jamie Martin who tripled and singled, driving in 3 runs. Kristen Byrd singled twice. Alyssa Pendergrass, Julian Johnson and Jazmin Thomas singled as LCHS broke a 2-2 deadlock with a 3-run third.

Kammy Creel (1K, 1BB) was the losing pitcher.

The Lady Tigers got a first-inning, 2-RBI triple from Katie Kalusche. Paige Brock doubled. Leyton Terrell, Kaylin Coney and Creel singled.
