Lady Panthers win Clinton tourney

CLINTON — Sparkling on offense and defense, the Brookhaven LadyPanthers won their pool in Saturday’s Clinton Invitational atTraceway Park. They won three slowpitch softball games, beatingRidgeland 10-0, Clinton 9-5 and Moss Point 5-4.

“We had an outstanding day on defense and offense,” said BHShead coach Lisa Covington. “Moss Point is a powerhouse in Class5A.”

Brookhaven plays at McComb Tuesday and Wingfield Thursday.

Brookhaven 10, Ridgeland 0

Brittany Smith (13-2) pitched the victory in all threegames.

Leading the Lady Panthers at the plate was second basemanAllyson Wallace who tripled, doubled and singled twice. AshleySykes doubled twice and singled. Taylor Crane, and Terri Hodgessingled twice. Kayla Prince tripled. Smith doubled.

Brookhaven 9, Clinton 5

At the plate, Prince, Sykes and Smith collected 3 singlesapiece. Wallace doubled and singled. Lauren Smith, Katie Smith andChristi Martin singled twice.

Brookhaven 5, Moss Point 4

The Lady Panthers forged a 4-0 lead over Moss Point. They scoredthe decisive run in the top of the seventh to lead 5-3.

Wallace paved the way with a single, double and triple. BrittanySmith collected 3 singles. Sykes had 2 singles.
