Services for Mamye Shamburger Ward Johnston, of Wesson, were 11a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Mission Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wesson.

Visitation was Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Johnston, 103, died June 22, 2008, at her residence. Shewas born in Hopewell located in Copiah County on March 28, 1905, toJohn Shamburger and Hattie Barlow Shamburger.

She was a retired machine operator and line supervisor at StahlUrban, a salesperson and manager of Famous Shoe Store. She was amember of Mission Hill Baptist Church. She was a Past Worthy Matronof the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong pianist, and churchaccompanist for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting andtatting.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, JamesHomer Ward and Frank Johnston; her daughter, Marie Gaston; herbrothers, Hugh Shamburger and Frank Shamburger; her sisters, MerleSandifer, Jessye Denman and Adelle Shamburger.

Survivors are her daughters, Carolyn W. Warren, of Wesson,Pauline W. Sistrunk, of Meridian, and Betty Jo W. Peters, ofBrookhaven; her son-in-law, Howard G. Peters Jr., of Brookhaven,and her son-in-law, John Gaston, of Wesson; her five grandchildren,Shirley Ann Magee and husband, Harley, of Brookhaven, Jimmy Lovetteand wife, Kathryn, of Wesson, Debbie Barker and husband, Cliff, ofMeridian, Ward Gaston and wife, Darlene, of Wesson, H.G. Peters IIIand wife, Ann, of Center, Texas; and five great-grandchildren,Cindy McLain, of Tulsa, Okla., Stacy White and husband, Dusty, ofBrookhaven, Michelle Kelly and husband, Jonathan, of Brookhaven,Rachel Knight and husband, Justin, of Meridian and Kyle Peters, ofCenter; her three great-great-grandchildren, Laura Leigh White, ofBrookhaven, Alex McLain, of Tulsa, Duncan Knight, of Meridian; andthree nephews, John Shamburger, Jimmy Shamburger and LeeShamburger.
