Clifton E. Adams Sr.

Services for Clifton E. Adams Sr., of Springfield, Mass., willbe held at noon on Thursday, May 29, at First Park Memorial BaptistChurch with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Harrell Funeral Home inSpringfield is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of theservice at the church.

Mr. Adams, 71, died May 24, 2008, at Baystate Medical Center. Hewas born in Brookhaven in 1936 to Louis and Edna (Diggs) AdamsSr.

He was a retired Baystate Gas Company street department chief.He was a graduate of Alexander High School in Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, Melvin Adams andAlbert Adams; his sisters, Precious Reed and Lillie Rucks; and adaughter, Joyce Gasque.

Survivors are his wife, Hazel L. (Harris) Adams; his childrenand their spouses, Clifton (and Brenda) Adams Jr. of Philadelphia,Pa., Curtis (and Terry) Adams, Mary (and Chris) Christiansen, andJoann Davis, Malinda Davis, and Silas Davis, all of Springfield,Jennifer (and Tim) Jackson, of Norwood, Mass., Karen (and Obia)Jennings, of Bloomfield, Conn., and Tommie Rickett of Corstadt,N.J.; his sisters, Lena Mae Henderson, and Lucille Dixson, both ofBrookhaven; his brother, Louis Adams Jr., of Woodland, Texas; his17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several otherrelatives and friends.

Lafayette W. Lucas

Services for Lafayette W. Lucas, of Collins, will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, May 30, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church inSilver Creek with burial in Lucas Tabernacle Cemetery. The Rev.Phillip Clark will officiate. Washington Funeral Home in Tylertownis in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Lucas, 90, died May 21, 2008, at Covington County Hospitalin Collins. He was born in Silver Creek on Feb. 6, 1918, to WillisW. Lucas and Narcissa White-Lucas.

He was a carpenter. He was a United States Army veteran.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Thelma Lucas;four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors are his brothers, Willis W. Lucas, of Woodlands,Texas, and Smith D. (Charlene) Lucas, of Conroe, Texas; hissisters-in-law, Victoria Lucas, of Memphis, Tenn., Dorothy Lucas,of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marjorie Lucas, of Silver Creek.

Richard Ross Nelson

Richard Ross Nelson, of Temple, Texas, 67, died May 18, 2008, athis daughter’s residence in Brookhaven.

He was born on June 9, 1940, to Richard A. Nelson and VirginiaDofelmire Nelson, and was a former resident of Brookhaven.

He was retired from McLane in Temple. He was a longtime employeewith the former Southern Wholesale and transferred to Texas withthem.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his daughters, Marsha Winborne and husband Tim, ofBrookhaven, and Autumn McDonald and husband Tres, of Saltillo; hissister, Linda Johnson, of Seattle, Wash.; and his grandchildren,Jonathan Winborne, Jeremy Winborne, Joshua Winborne, all ofBrookhaven, and Alex McDonald, of Saltillo.

Services will be held in Kalispell, Mont., at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Children’sMiracle Network or Catch-A-Dream.

Ivy Mae Watson Smith

Services for Ivy Mae Watson Smith, of Brookhaven, will be heldat 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapelon North Jackson Street with burial in Hillcrest Church of ChristCemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Smith, 92, died May 26, 2008, at her residence. She wasborn in Monticello on Oct. 14, 1915, to James W. Watson and MaryJane Weeks Watson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Church ofChrist.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Homer W.Smith; an infant son; her granddaughter, Kimberly Moak Martin; anda special daughter-in-law, Caroline Reed Smith.

Survivors are her sons, Harold W. Smith and wife Bonnie, Joel E.Smith and wife Nita, all of Brookhaven, David A. Smith and wifeDianne, of Monroe, La., Paul M. Smith and wife Canelia, of Ruston,La., and Gerald R. Smith and wife DeLisa, of Vidalia, La.; herdaughters, Ellen S. Butler and husband Gene, Martha S. Lofton,Linda F. Bruce and husband Wesley, all of Brookhaven, and Janice S.Moak and husband Bobby, of Bogue Chitto; her 24 grandchildren; 33great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers are Gary W. Smith, Matt W. Lofton, Adam Lofton, DonSmith, Mark Smith and Dennis Neal.

Honorary pallbearers are David H. Smith, Kyle Smith, RobertSmith, Chris J. Smith, Jason E. Moak and Shane G. Smith.
