West Lincoln sweeps Wesson

The West Lincoln Bears salvaged two season-opening wins overWesson Monday night in Jack Case Gymnasium. The Lady Bears edgedthe Lady Cobras 32-29. In the boys’ game, The Bears rolled 66-39over Wesson.

West Lincoln (1-0) resumes action today, hosting the EnterpriseYellow Jackets. Tipoff at with 4 p.m. with the junior varsitygirls.

West Lincoln senior guard Karli Herrington pumped in 14 points, 3rebounds, 2 assists and a steal to lead the Lady Bears. KatieMullins had 10 rebounds and 6 points. Katie Hester contributed 6points and 6 rebounds.

“Both teams played very sloppy,” said West Lincoln coach LaneYoung. “We have got to protect the ball better and not commitcareless turnovers. Overall, both teams played extremelyhard.”

Elsie Miller was the leading scorer for Wesson (0-1) with 10 pointsand 2 rebounds. Dylann Harris crashed the boards, collecting 10rebounds.

“Inexperience cost us tonight,” said first year Wesson coach RustiMagee. “I am playing with a group of girls that had never touchedthe floor on last year’s team. But they gave me everything they gotand that is all that I asked for.”

West Lincoln 66, Wesson 39

Sophomore center Lucas Burris provided a double-double with 14points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bears. Jay Case also pumped in13 points for the cause.

“Wesson played very well in the first half,” said Coach Young. “Wetried to do too much, too fast early, but we settled down andstarted to play very good ball. Our bench did a very good job forus. Overall, I am glad to get the win for both teams to start theseason.”

Gib Britt led the Cobras with a game high 16 points

“I was very proud of my guys effort in the first half,” said Wessonfirst-year coach Rusty Newman. “We struggled to get things going inthe second half. West Lincoln has a very good team.”

In junior high action, West Lincoln’s girls collected a 28-14victory over Wesson. Micah Redd led the Lady Bears with 12 points.Aysha Thomas was the leading scorer for Wesson with 8 points.

In the boys’ game, Wesson had to go into overtime to prevail with a49-44 win over West Lincoln. Mack Smith led the Cobras with 15points. Tyler Christmas provided 12 points and Farrod Green10.

Duane Marshall led the Bears with a game-high 34 points.
