East Central sweeps Co-Lin in baseball

DECATUR — The Co-Lin Wolves dropped a pair of season openers tothe East Central Warriors Thursday night in baseball action.

East Central took the opener 4-1 and the finale 3-2. The Wolvescommitted 3 errors in each game.

“We pitched well enough to win,” said Co-Lin head baseball coachKeith Case after reviewing game films from his office. “EastCentral had 3 homers on the day.”

Co-Lin (0-2) hosts Hinds Tuesday at Sullivan Field for the firsthome game of the season. The first game kicks off at 1 p.m.

East Central 4, Co-Lin 1

A huge 3-run home run from East Central’s Van Wilsonbroke a 1-all tie with Co-Lin in the bottom of the fifth inning.Keith Edwards got the win.

Absorbing the loss was reliever Ryan Belanger with 6strikeouts, 3 walks and 1 hit allowed in 4 innings. Starting wasScotty Smith with 2 strikeouts, 1 walks and 3 runs allowed on 4hits.

Singling for the Wolves were Josh Logan, Jody Britt andPatrick Williams.

East Central 3, Co-Lin 2

Homers hurt Co-Lin in the second outing as Wilson andMucus Davis burned the visitors with a homer apiece. The Wolves led1-0 after three innings but the Warriors went up 2-1 in the fourth.Co-Lin tied the game with 1 run in the fifth as East Central tookthe lead for good win a run in the sixth.

John Cole got the win in relive of starter Cody Sevell.Joseph Langham absorbed the loss in relief of DerekThompson.

Powering the Wolves with a double and 2 singles wascatcher Matthew Schexnayder. Xavier Qualls, Garrett Jones and CodyCunningham hit safely.

Davis and Wilson collected a homer and a single each forEast Central’s only hits.
