Funeral services for Gloria Annette Brown Wheat, of Summit, are 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Calvary Baptist Church in Smithdale, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Travis Scruggs, the Rev. Chad Carney and Dr. David Luce will be officiating. Jones Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

     Visitation is Thursday from 5:30 until 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 until 11 a.m., both at the church.

     Mrs. Wheat, 51, died Feb. 21, 2012, at her home. She was born in Independence, La. on Feb. 23, 1960.

     She was a homemaker and caregiver to the elderly. She had worked at Brookhaven Academy. Mrs. Wheat enjoyed making arts and crafts and working with the youth of Calvary Baptist Church in Smithdale, where she was a member.

     She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

     Preceding her in death were her father, Eldridge J. Brown; both her paternal and maternal grandparents; and a grandson, Ryan Didone.

     Survivors are her husband, Wallace Paul Wheat, of Summit; mother and stepfather, Nancy and Larry Loper, of Brookhaven; sons, Russell David Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Summit, and Jeremy Wheat and wife, Priscilla, of Brookhaven; daughter, Amanda Wheat Arender and husband, Joshua, of Taylorsville; brothers, Buddy Brown and wife, Mandi, and Pete Brown and wife, Tanya, all of Denham Springs, La.; stepsisters, Julie Roberson, of Brookhaven, and Zellinne LaFleur and husband, Jay, of New Orleans; seven grandchildren, Rachel Budde, Ashley Cutrer, Cindy Ginn, Joshua Ginn, Hunter Wheat, Grasyn Wheat and Slater Arender; three great-grandchildren, Kaliee Budde, Dakotta Haraughty and Raymond Budde; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

     Pallbearers will be Brandon Wheat, James Barnett, David Wroten, Earl Barnett, Jacob Brown and Dale Wheat Jr.

     Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Brown Sr., Donald Brown Jr. and Truette Brown.

     In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice Compassus, 140 North 5th St., McComb, MS 39648.
