Brookhaven welcomes a new opponent to King Field Friday night inthe Jackson Wingfield Falcons. It’s the first Region 6-4A game ofthe season for both schools. Kickoff is 7:30.

Wingfield (1-2) and Jackson Jim Hill are newcomers to Region6-4A this year. The Falcons are under the direction of Coach ChuckFoley.

In other region action, Lawrence County hosts McComb and JimHill visits Terry. South Pike is at Vicksburg in a non-regiontest.

Brookhaven (2-1), fresh from shutting out the Clinton Arrows20-0, and South Pike (3-0) were picked to finish 1-2 in a preseasonpoll of 6-4A coaches. BHS head coach Tucker Peavey realizes theimportance of tomorrow night’s region test.

“This is an important game for us,” said Peavey. “I thinkWingfield will come in here knowing they are new to our region.They will want people to know that they belong in our region downhere.”

Foley, 39, is in his 7th year at Wingfield. He is a Delta Stategraduate. His Falcons finished 1-10 last season. They defeatedJackson Bailey 16-9 last week, scoring a touchdown and a field goalin the fourth quarter.

The Falcons lost to Forest Hill 26-6 in their season opener andbowed 49-0 to Provine in the second game of the season.

Peavey said Wingfield has a balanced attack. “They like to runand throw. I know No. 8 is good with the ball in his hands. He is areturner and a wide receiver, a real good athlete.”

On defense, the Falcons play an 8-man front to concentrate onstopping the run. The offensive line is anchored by Roderick Scott(6-2, 290, sr.), a college prospect.

Peavey said the Wingfield-Bailey game film was difficult toanalyze because of foul weather. “They played last Friday in a rainstorm. Their film was hard to see.”

The Panthers played well in last week’s win over Clinton. Theyshut down Clinton’s aerial attack (22 yards) and limited the Arrowsto 130 rushing yards. Junior tackle Jessie Bowman directed theshutout with 10 tackles, including 6 solo stops.

Linebacker Jason Dixon followed Bowman with 8 tackles.Linebacker Darius Perkins and end Phillip Tobias each had 7 stops.Aljur Herring intercepted a pass, his first of the season.

Offensively, quarterback Jimmy Johns directed the Panthers with208 yards total offense. He completed 6 of 17 passes for 108 yardsand 1 TD, an 8-yard pass to Dominique Smith. Johns rushed 12 timesfor 100 yards and 1 TD.

Panther wide receiver Bud Chatman had 2 catches for 70yards.
