WL girls win in 10th inning

The host West Lincoln Lady Bears broke a 1-all tie in the bottomof the 10th inning to hand the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats a 2-1 lossin a key district slowpitch softball game Thursday night.

With the game tied 1-all, West Lincoln’s Liana Laird scored thewinning run from third base on a throwing error by Bogue Chitto’sKelli Howard, off of a hard hit by Lady Bear Ashley McCaffrey.

For the final home game of the season, West Lincoln recognizedsenior players Shelby Lofton, Julie Case and Laird. Also recognizedwere managers Kelsey Smith and Zack Williams.

West Lincoln (14-4) improved to 3-0 in the district. BogueChitto (9-5) fell to 1-1 in district play.

“Both teams played great defense tonight,” said West Lincolnhead coach Andrew Redd. “Bogue Chitto kept us from scoring quite afew times. But both of these teams should have gotten more than 11hits total, especially a 10-inning game. We’ve got to do a betterjob hitting.”

In the top of the ninth, Bogue Chitto’s Holly Miller singled inDarcy Miller from third for the 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the ninth saw West Lincoln’s Hannah Knouse’s popfly out allowed Case the opportunity to score from third and tiethe game at 1-1.

“Neither team had a good time hitting the ball,” said BogueChitto head coach Scott Leggett. “Someone was going to get thebreak either by hitting or an error. We must regroup and get readyfor Cathedral at Natchez Monday.”

Jessica Franklin was the winning pitcher with 7 strikeouts and 1walk. Blaine Myers absorbed the loss with 1 strikeout.

West Lincoln was led by Case at the plate with a second single.Singling were Alexis Cook and Keri Easley.

Amanda Owen led Bogue Chitto with 3 singles. Bradi Davis andHoward hit safely.

Junior varsity action

The Bears clipped the ‘Cats 2-1 in the JV contest.

Lofton posted the win, fanning 5 batters and walking 4. DarcyMiller took the loss with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

West Lincoln got a single from MaKayla Smith, Marissa Pruski,Katie Mullins and Taylor Lofton.

Singling for Bogue Chitto were Adrienne Welch, Rheagan Welch,Heather Miller and Marshonique Blackwell.
