Shasta Porter wore a knee brace on her left leg Friday night. Itdidn’t slow her down much as Porter scored 22 points and grabbed 11rebounds in Bogue Chitto’s 62-28 waltz past West Lincoln’s LadyBears in Jack Case Gymnasium.

Bogue Chitto raised its Division 7-1A record to 5-0 and climbedto 14-2 overall. West Lincoln (6-11, 4-2) was no match for the Lady’Cats on the backboards.

Porter, a 6-foot-1 senior, strained an MCL in her left kneeduring last Tuesday’s game at Mt. Hermon, La. She rested on thetraining table after Friday night’s victory, a large bag of icewrapped around her knee to reduce swelling.

Kimberlee Thomas, a strong and quick 5-9 senior post, providedPorter with plenty of help on the backboards. She grabbed 16rebounds, scored 9 points and made 7 steals.

“Our post players did an excellent job,” said BC girls coachChristi Terrell. “We tried to work it inside.”

Terrell’s team is a runaway favorite to win the division title.They were eliminated in the quarterfinals of last year’s SouthMississippi playoffs, losing to Stringer, the eventual statechampion.

Guard Chelsey Miller pumped in 19 points for the Lady ‘Cats. Shealso had 6 steals.

The ‘Cats used a 2-3 zone to shut down West Lincoln. The Bearswere limited to perimeter shooting and trailed 29-14 athalftime.

“Bogue Chitto has a size advantage on us,” said West Lincolngirls coach Lane Young. “Their post players are prettyaggressive.”

Young has no seniors and just 1 junior on his young squad. “Mygirls played hard.”

Sophomore guard Julie Case led West Lincoln with 10 points,sacking 3 straight field goals during the third quarter. KeriEasley had 3 assists.

The Bears had 18 turnovers and 17 rebounds.

The ‘Cats owned a 60-24 lead with 4 minutes left in thegame.

Bogue Chitto plays Dexter Tuesday night at Salem. Dexter’s gymwas destroyed during Hurricane Katrina Aug. 29, 2005, and has notbeen rebuilt.
