The host Lincoln County American League All-Stars whipped 17-10Walthall County 17-10 Tuesday night on Bank of Franklin Field atKeystone Park in the first game in the best-of-three series of theDixie Youth Baseball AAA 9s District Six Championship.

The Americans, managed by Stan Winborne, are the NorthSubdistrict Champs. Walthall is the South champ.

Game Two will be played tonight at Tylertown, beginning at 7p.m. If necessary, a coin toss will determine the location of athird game. Both teams have qualified for the DYB State Tournamentat Hattiesburg which begins July 17.

After the first inning, the Ameicans and Walthall were tied3-all. The Lincoln County All-Stars scored 5 runs in the second togive them an 8-3 lead. In the top of the third, Walthall scored 6to temporarily go up 9-8. The Americans came back with 1 run to tiethe game at 9-all.

Lincoln County took the lead for good with 8 runs in the bottomof the fourth and secured the win.

“I thought Walthall was the best hitting team we have played,”said Winborne. “A lot of balls got hit that we made plays on. Theymatched up better with us at the plate than anyone else. Walthallran the bases well.

“I felt like they got some good innings out of their pitcher,”Winborne added. “We struggled in the middle with our pitching. Wewere able to score some runs.”

For the Americans, Dylan Winborne started the game and tossedthe first 2 innings, facing 10 batters and allowing 3 runs on 3hits. Winborne fanned 3 batters and walked 2.

Parker Flowers worked two thirds of the third frame and faced 8batters. He allowd 6 runs on 1 hit. Flowers walked 6 batters.

Tucker Lambert followed in relief and took the win in 1.3innings, facing 7 batters and giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Lambertstruck out 1 batter and walked 1.

Cade Hodges closed the final two innings and faced 9 batters,allowing 1 run on 1 hit. He struck out 1 and walked 3.

The losing hurler was was Tanner Polk who took over in thesecond inning.

Powering the Americans at the plate with a triple and a doubleapiece were Flowers and Hodges. Justin Johnson doubled and singled.Winborne and Johnny Bowman each singled twice. Singling were TannerWalthrop, Tucker Lambert, and Peyton Smith.

“It was a good hitting night for us,” added Winborne. “We havehad more hits but we had long deep hits last night. We hit thefence several times. Hopefully we can repeat the performance downthere.”

Walthall was led by Myles Reagan with a triple and a single.Jason McKee tripled. Hitting safely were Cameron Cowart, MarkMaliseon, O.J. Magee and Jashan Carpenter.
