WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves introduced themselves to the OnondagaCommunity College Lazers of Syracuse, N.Y., Monday on SullivanField. Co-Lin increased its winning streak to six straight with asweep of the Lazers, winning 4-1 and 13-3.

Co-Lin (8-9) resumes play today at Delgado Community College inNew Orleans, starting at 4 p.m.

In the opener, Co-Lin freshman pitchers Cass Brister and ThomasGarland combined for a no-hitter as Onondaga lost its season openerin a week-long tour of the Magnolia State. The Lazers play at JonesCounty in Ellisville today and tackle Pearl River at Poplarville onWednesday and Thursday before playing Jones again on Friday.

In the nightcap, sophomore Kendall Poole recorded the win,striking out 9 batters and allowing 9 hits in 5 innings.

Co-Lin head coach Keith Case said his team played better in thesecond game of the twinbill. “In the second game we were moreaggressive on the bases. We hit the ball and moved runnersaround.

In the first game, we put the ball in play but we were poor onthe base paths,” Case continued. “We also walked eight guys in thefirst game. You can’t afford to do that in most games.”

Co-Lin 4, Onondaga 1

Brister, a freshman from Brookhaven (Loyd Star), walked 7batters, struck out 3 and gave up an unearned run as he faced 21batters in 5 innings. Garland fanned 2 batters and walked 1 tocomplete the no-hitter.

At the plate, Co-Lin was directed by sophomore centerfielderParis Dancy who tripled and doubled. Aaron Guillot tripled andAaron Oberschmidt doubled. Catcher Chase Coley had 2 hits andJeffrey Waycaster singled.

Sophomore right-hander Andrew Kuss, Onondaga’s No.1 starter, wasthe losing pitcher.

Co-Lin 13, Onondaga 3

Poole (1-3), a sophomore right-hander from Brookhaven, wastagged for 4 hits and 1 run in the top of the first inning. Hesettled down and recorded 6 strikeouts in the first 2 frames.

“It feels good to win,” said Poole. “My split-finger (fastball)was working good. My team played good defense and we startedhitting the ball.”

Poole walked 3 batters in 5 innings. Freshman Jacob Leggettpitched the final frame, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1.

“After the first inning, Kendall bowed his neck and went towork,” said Coach Case. “The more he throws the better hegets.”

Leading 11-3 in the sixth, Co-Lin got a long triple from Guillotdown the right field line. Catcher Aaron Oberschmidt followed withan RBI double to the left field corner. A sacrifice fly by Jeb Leeto right field scored Oberschmidt and the game ended via the 10-runrule.

Onondaga head coach Chris Cafalone had his team in Starkvilleover the weekend to watch Mississippi State and get some outdoorpractice. The Lazers, a Division I program, had worked indoors forseveral weeks in Syracuse.

“Co-Lin is very fundamentally sound and they are well-coached,”said Cafalone. “I told our players they would see a lot offundamentally strong teams in Mississippi.

“I was pleased with our defense but I was frustrated,” saidCafalone, in his eighth year with the program and second as headcoach. “We threw our top two pitchers against Co-Lin.”

Ten of Cafalone’s 11 sophomores signed senior collegescholarships last season.

Sophomore right-hander Bill Sauve started on the mound againstCo-Lin. He gave up 11 runs on 8 hits, struck out 1 batter andwalked 4.

Leading 9-1 in the fourth, Co-Lin got a pinch-hit triple fromSullivan to the right field fence. Nucete produced an RBI doubleand scored on a wild pitch, making it 11-1.

The Wolfpack accounted for 12 hits. Oberschmidt and freshmanleftfielder Ben Davis tripled and singled.
