ELLISVILLE – Rachel Vigers pumped in 21 points Monday night,sparking the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to an 82-74 victory against JonesCounty Junior College in South Division basketball action. Vigers,a 5-9 freshman guard from Baton Rouge, La., led four Lady Wolves indouble digits as No. 14-ranked Co-Lin hiked its record to 3-0 inthe South and 14-1 overall.

In the men’s game, Co-Lin lost an 89-79 decision to the Bobcats,despite a game-high 35 points by guard Rob Wallace.

Co-Lin resumes play Thursday night, hosting Gulf Coast CommunityCollege for a South Division doubleheader, starting at 6 p.m. inMullen Gymnasium.

Co-Lin 82, Jones County 74

Vigers was joined in double digits by Shareka Hunt with 16points, Latoria Holder with 15 and Rhonda Dumas with 12.

“It was a very good win for the Lady Wolves against a good JonesCounty team on the road,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Wedid a better job of rebounding and stopping fastbreak baskets inthe second half.”

Young will be honored Thursday night, recognizing him for his700th career victory which was achieved Dec. 13th in a game againstNortheast at Booneville. The ceremony will take place prior to themen’s game.

Jones owned a 6-point lead with 4 minutes left to play. Youngplaced his team in a full-court pressure defense and spoiled JCJC’supset bid.

On the backboards, Co-Lin got 7 rebounds from Vigers and 5 fromHunt. As a team, they shot 50 percent from the field.

TeAirra Wilbert and Rhonda Dumas each had 6 assists for Co-Lin.Wilbert also made 5 steals.

Jones (10-4, 2-1) got 14 points from Brittany Leverett and 13apiece from Ashley Lee and Consuela Tucker.

Jones 89, Co-Lin 79, OT

Wallace rebounded a missed shot by teammate Trent Hutchin andtied the game at 73-73 in regulation. Hutchin finished with 17points and 5 assists.

“During overtime we seemed to run out of gas,” said Co-Lin men’scoach Dennis Sims after watching his Wolves get outscored 16-6 inthe 5-minute extra session. “Our young men played hard and evenwell at times.”

Co-Lin (8-8, 2-1) was led in rebounding by Wallace and LewanskiNewsome with 7 boards apiece. Gerald Bass had 6 rebounds.

Wallace shot 50 percent from the 3-point arc, making 7 of14.

The Bobcats (14-2, 3-0) were directed by Trenton Marshall’s30-point outburst. Brandon Wilson chipped in 22 points and 12rebounds.
