Dudley Joseph Mire Sr., a retired employee of Holsum Bakery onChoctaw Street with 40 years of service and a resident and nativeof Gonzales, La., died of leukemia on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at9:45 a.m. He was 79.

He also worked part time with his son, Dudley Jr., at Cal’sBakery.

Visiting at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Gonzales, was on Nov.27 until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment was in HolyRosary Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Bourgeois Mire,whom he married on June 18, 1949. He is also survived by twodaughters, Wanda Mire, of Gonzales, and Lynette Mire McGrew and herhusband, Zeb, of Bogue Chitto; a son, Dudley “T-Dud” J. Mire Jr.and his wife, Mitzi Robert Mire, of Gonzales; a sister, Mary Whiteand her husband, Bob, of St. Amant; a sister-in-law, Mary FrancisMire, of Gonzales; his eight grandchildren, Vicky Smith Applewhiteand Travis McGrew, of Bogue Chitto, Celeste Cade and her husband,Chad, of Brookhaven, Heather Babin, Dudley Mire III, Terese Mire,Hubble Mire and Derrick Mire, of Gonzales; his great-grandchildren,Larkin Smith, Maverick Smith, Jared Applewhite and Caleb McGrew, ofBogue Chitto, Colby Cade and Caitlin Cade, of Brookhaven.

He was preceded in death by his father, Omer C. Mire; mother,Mary Celeste Frederick Mire; two brothers, Clarence Mire and OscarMire Sr.; two half brothers, Dumatil Mire and Elliot Mire; and ahalf sister, Julie Furlow.

Pallbearers were Travis McGrew, Dudley Mire III, Hubble Mire,Derrick Mire, Oscar Mire Jr. and Heath Babin.

He loved working in his wood shop at home where he made manyprecious items for his family and friends. Dudley and Shirley lovedcamping and traveling and enjoyed many trips in and out of thecountry. He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church on EastBoulevard and St. Francis de Sales Church for the Deaf where heserved as reader, usher and on the parish council.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St.Francis de Sales or Hospice in His Care.
