WESSON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves came back in the final sevenminutes of the game to put away the Pearl River Lady Wildcats 59-43Thursday night in a key South Division matchup at MullenGymnasium.

In the men’s game, the Wildcats held off the Wolves to escapewith a 55-46 victory.

The Lady Wolves improved to 10-4 on the season and remainunbeaten in division play at 6-0. The Wolves fell to 3-3 indivision play and 8-6 overall.

Co-Lin is on the road next week. The Wolves travel to JonesCounty Monday and East Central Thursday.

Co-Lin 59, Pearl River 43

The game was tied 41-all with 7:15 remaining on the clock whenthe Lady Wolves went on an 18-2 scoring run to put away the LadyWildcats. Pearl River finally scored with 24 seconds left on aputback by freshman Laterrica Booth.

“They couldn’t handle out press,” said Co-Lin women’s coach GwynYoung after the win. “We got a couple of quick baskets. We did abetter job with our half court defense.

“We pressed them at the end and came away with some easybaskets,” added Young.

The game was close in the first half with the Lady Wildcatsgoing into halftime up four points, 29-25 , over the LadyWolves.

Co-Lin shot well from the free throw line, going 22 of 29 on thenight. Pearl River was 10 of 16.

Freshman guard Nikki Williams powered Co-Lin with 16 points, 5rebounds and 5 steals. Whitney Scott fired in 12 points and grabbed6 rebounds. Tops off the backboards was Erica Trahan with 12rebounds. Dominique Whitfield collected 5 rebounds, made 3 stealsand blocked 3 shots.

Pearl River, coached by Ed Walley, had no players in doublefigures. The Lady Wildcats (3-13, 1-4) were paced by freshmanforward Cella Doggins with 8 points.

Pearl River 55, Co-Lin 46

The Co-Lin men struggled early on, trailing Pearl River 8-0before freshman forward Joey Jackson hit a field goal at the 14:17mark to cut the deficit to 8-2. The Wolves took their first lead,12-11, at the 11:28 mark. The hosts pushed their lead to 7 points,21-13, with 8:07 left before the visitors came back to take a 27-23lead at the half.

In the second half, the Wolves never took the lead. They cut thedeficit to 4 points, 44-40, on a trey from sophomore forward ArvelKeys with 5:38 remaining in the game. Keys, who led the Wolves with16 points and 4 rebounds, fouled out of the game at the 5:19mark.

“We’re not scoring,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims. “Youscore 46 points and you shouldn’t win the ball game. We’re notgetting anything offensively. This is a team that is selfdestructive because of selfishness.”

Sophomore guard Ivory Dishmon finished with 9 points for theWolves. Geric Anderson grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 assists. JoeyJackson also collected 6 rebounds.

The top scorer for Coach Richard Mathis’ Wildcats (11-6, 5-1)was freshman forward Wesley Jones with 17 points and 14 rebounds.Chasen Uptain finished with 10 points. Jeremy Holder grabbed 7rebounds.
