PERKINSTON — Co-Lin couldn’t find its shooting range Mondaynight and suffered the consequences at Mississippi Gulf CoastCommunity College. Gulf Coast beat the Lady Wolves 59-47 and theBulldogs whipped the Wolves 77-60 in a South Division basketballdoubleheader.

Co-Lin returns to action next Tuesday, Dec. 16, traveling toDelgado Community College in New Orleans.

The Lady Wolves (5-4, 1-1) battled Gulf Coastto a 21-21 halftime deadlock but were unable to capitalize on theirstrong defensive effort. The Lady Bulldogs got a game-high 27points from 5-10 sophomore JoAnna Williams, a Gulfport product.

“We had a good defensive effort and held Gulf Coast to 21 pointsin the first half,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Wedidn’t do a good job of executing on offense and we got in foultrouble. We had too many turnovers and bad passes.”

Gulf Coast (9-2) cashed in the Co-Lin turnovers with easybaskets and cruised to victory. Angel Liddell tossed in 11 pointsand LaShonda Berry snatched 11 rebounds.

Co-Lin got 10 points from Victoria Richardson and Renee Fields.Lauren Williams and Travalyn Smith both fouled out of thecontest.

The Wolves (5-4, 1-1) shot a season-low 26percent (9 of 34) from the field in the first half and trailed36-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs (4-6) finished with 5 players indouble figures.

“We didn’t fare much better in the second half,” said Co-Linmen’s coach Dennis Sims. “We stood around offensively and thishelped contribute to our poor shooting. We missed open shots.”

The Wolves got a game-high 17 points from sophomore forwardJeremy Richardson. Freshman guard Ledell Eackles chipped in 14points.

Co-Lin was outrebounded 36-22. Derrick Jarvis had 6 rebounds andDon Lockhart 5 to lead Co-Lin on the backboards.
