The Lincoln County Multi-Purpose Complex has been getting amakeover in recent weeks.

Tuesday, more than 10 volunteers with Team Depot, the communityinvolvements project team of Home Depot, provided a fresh look tothe facility’s conference rooms and painted the new administrativeoffice.

“Home Depot does this once a quarter for non-profitorganizations,” said Tammie Hancock, team captain. “Everyone herehas volunteered their time off to come and do this.”

The store also donated the paint for the project, Hancocksaid.

The construction of the new administrative office, whichoccupies space to the left of the front door in the former foyer,was completed last week, said Quinn Jordan, facility manager.

“I’m hoping to be in the office around the last week of June,”he said.

However, Jordan said he still must procure the office’sfurniture and supplies.

Although the complex had to contract out the actual constructionof the office addition, Paul Jackson and Son Construction ofBrookhaven donated the needed materials to help reduce the cost, hesaid.

The total cost of the facility for the addition of the officeand to freshen up the paint in the facility’s business area wasapproximately $1,400.

“I don’t know how much that would have cost without thedonations,” Jordan said.

Work was also completed earlier this month to upgrade the arena,he said. A permanent fence was installed inside the arena and thedoors and existing fencing repainted.

The arena work was made possible by a $4,000 grant through thePearl River Valley Association, with donations of labor or suppliesby Brookhaven businesses Sherwin Williams, Southern Welding,Southern Electric and Boyd’s Steel Supply to keep the projectwithin available funding, Jordan said.

Additionally, timber in the north and northeastern portions ofthe property will be cut soon to help fund the ground work to add asmall recreational vehicle park on the northeastern side of thefacility, a parking lot to the north and other enhancements, Jordansaid.

“We’re developing a footprint for any future enhancements,” hesaid.

Future developments in that area could include the addition ofbaseball fields, a concession stand and other facilities inconjunction with an agreement with a local sports organization tooperate that portion of the complex, Jordan said.

However, county supervisors are still waiting to learn if afederal grant for that project has been approved.
