Loyd Star smashes St. Al

Loyd Star overpowered visiting Vicksburg St. Aloysius Tuesdaynight. The Lady Hornets smashed the Lady Flashes 49-27, powered byShara Johnson’s 26 points, while the Hornets got 21 points fromJared Britt in an 82-36 trouncing of the Flashes.

Loyd Star resumes play Friday, hosting the Enterprise YellowJackets for a Lincoln County shootout. Action starts at 4 p.m. witha junior varsity girls game.

The Lady Hornets (4-1) had no trouble with theSt. Al girls. They led 29-11 at halftime.

“This was an ugly game,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt.”We had too many turnovers. We played a good third quarter.”

Loyd Star got 12 rebounds and 4 steals from Johnson. JordanBritt made 5 assists, 2 steals and 9 points. Ashton Williamsgrabbed 9 rebounds.

St. Al (2-3) got 12 points from Sarah Kerot.

“We came out flat,” said St. Al coach Paul Hayden. “Turnovershurt us. We cannot control the ball game. Loyd Star outhustledus.”

The Hornets (5-0) got 16 points from TylerWilliford, including 3 treys. He also had 4 steals.

Britt led the boardwork with 13 rebounds. He also had 6 stealsand 3 assists.

Sidney Chester had 6 rebounds and Jonathan Smith 5 as theHornets rolled to a 34-18 halftime lead. Loyd Star boys coach Gene”Moochie” Britt was able to use all of his players and 12 of themput points on the scoreboard.

“Our shooting was good the whole ballgame,” said Coach Britt.”Our defense stepped up and we made them turn it over a bunch withour press.”

The Flashes (1-4) were led by Kyle Richards with 14 points.

“Coach Britt has a good squad,” said Coach Hayden. “Theyouthustled us and we had too many turnovers. We must learn to playfour quarters.”

Hayden’s team plays at Madison St. Joe Friday night.

Seventh Grade Action

Franklin County defeated Loyd Star 35-20 in a seventh grade boysgame as Phillip Shell scored 14 points and Jamie Collins 9 for theBulldogs.

Loyd Star got 9 points from Blake Wilson and 8 from TradousWilliams.
