Collins carries Franklin Co.

LIBERTY – Senior quarterback Jamie Collins put the FranklinCounty Bulldogs on his strong shoulders and carried them Fridaynight. Collins accounted for all 4 touchdowns in leading theBulldogs to a 28-6 win over the Amite County Trojans in a Division7-3A regular season finale.

Franklin County (9-1, 5-1) hosts Southeast Lauderdale Fridaynight in the opening round of the state playoffs. Kickoff is 7p.m.

“It was a real hard-fought game,” said FCHS coach Trent Hammond,rcviewing the victory. “Amite County came out and played us like itwas their playoff game. They have some good players.

“We didn’t execute the first half but we came back and playedhard the second half,” Hammond continued. “Jamie Collins had a biggame for us.”

Collins rushed 7 times for 83 yards, scoring touchdowns on runsof 26 and 30 yards. He also hooked up with Jarvis King on a 27-yardTD pass.

After the Trojans (3-7, 1-5) had taken a 6-0 lead in the secondquarter, Collins got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. Working atsafety, Collins picked off a Trojan pass and returned it 94 yardsfor a touchdown. Jace Carlock kicked his first of 4 extra pointswith 3:53 left in the first half and the Bulldogs never trailedagain.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs drove 66 yards in 6 plays.Collins streaked 26 yards for an insurance

TD. Frank Hunt caught a 35-yard pass from Collins on theprevious play.

Collins connected with Jarvis King for 27 yards and the TD,capping a 6-play, 65-yard march. That put the Bulldogs up 21-6.

The Bulldogs needed just 2 plays to score the final TD followedthe recovery of an onside kickoff at Amite’s 30-yard line.

On defense, end Tevin Thomas led the Bulldogs with 12 tackles.Lineman Bobby O’Quinn had 11 tackles. Linebackers Frank and JordanHunt each had 7 tackles. End Carl Johnson had 6 stops and 3 sacks.Ladarius Hunt had 5 tackles and 1 sack.
