Bears bury St. Aloysius

Kevin King pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead the host WestLincoln Bears to a 67-54 Division 7-1A win over the Vicksburg St.Aloysius Flashes Friday night. King also pulled down four reboundsand made two steals in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In varsity girls action, Britnee Smith fired in 14 points andgrabbed seven rebounds to pace West Lincoln to a 52-28 victory overSt. Aloysius.

The Bears (8-5, 3-0) pounced on the Flashes (1-8, 1-1) for alopsided 24-10 lead in the first quarter. West Lincoln and St. Alscored 12 points apiece in the second frame as the Bears led 36-22at the half.

“We’re glad to get a win before Christmas,” said West Lincolncoach Lane Young.

Contributing to the West Lincoln win with 19 points, fiverebounds, three steals and four assists was Shane Lynch. BradleighRice pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds and had three assists

“We have a lot of growing up to do,” said St. Al coach DrewMcBrayer. “We did good on offense. But we still need to work ondefense.”

Pacing St. Al with 15 points apiece were Marsh Willis and ChaseSmith.

The Lady Bears (10-3, 3-0) opened the firstquarter with a 20-6 run on the Lady Flashes (3-6, 1-1). Athalftime, West Lincoln commanded a 30-10 lead over St. Al.

West Lincoln playmaker Erica Shaw fired in 11 points, grabbedfive rebounds and made four steals. Lauren Smith netted ninepoints, collected two rebounds and made six steals.

Sarah Kerut, Elizabeth Mazzanti and Laura Weeks paced St. Alwith six points apiece.

“We came out flat,” stated McBrayer. “We are young and we’relearning that we have to play all four quarters, start tofinish.”

Junior Varsity Action

The West Lincoln boys handed St. Al a 23-15 loss. Aaron Shawdirected the Bears with 11 points.

Hardy Travis paced the Flashes with six points.
