Services for Ernest Edwin Norton Sr. of Brookhaven are 3 p.m.,today at First United Methodist Church with burial in New HopeMethodist Church cemetery.

Visitation is today from 1-3 p.m. at First United MethodistChurch. Harrigill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Norton, 84, died Oct. 25, 2002, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on Aug. 10, 1918, to LouisAndra Norton and Sarah Bertha Cade Norton.

He was a retired vice-president of Stahl-Urban Company, where hehad worked for 40 years. He and his wife were founders and formerco-owners of Brookwood Gifts and Antiques. He attended Loyd StarHigh School, and served in the air force during World War II. Hewas a member of First United Methodist Church for 60 years, servingon the administrative board and worship committee. He also workedwith Boy Scout Troop 119 and taught Sunday School. He was a memberof the Men’s Bible Class for many years.

In 1941, he married Ella Ernestine Freeman and they moved toBrookhaven, where they have lived the past 61 years and have beenactively involved in various civic organizations as well as churchactivities. They belonged to the Krewe of Ceres, and he was namedKing of the Harvest Ball in 1979.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 53 years. He was an avidgardener and was a member of the American Camellia Society, servingas chapter president in Brookhaven. He generated a new variety ofCamellia, the Sandra Kay, named after his daughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Edith MaeAtkins; and his brother, Clyde Wiley Norton.

Survivors are his wife, Ernestine Freeman Norton of Brookhaven;his sons, Ernest Edwin Norton Jr. of Brookhaven and Jack VictorNorton of Carrollton, Ga.; his daughter, Sandra Kay Norton ofDelray Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;and six nieces and nephews.
