Malcolm Bowman Sr.

Services for Malcolm Bowman Sr. of Knoxville, Tenn., are 3:30p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Stevens Mortuary in Knoxville, Tenn.Graveside services with burial are 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, atLynnhurst Cemetery.

Mr. Bowman, 81, died Oct. 1, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital.He was born in Bogue Chitto on July 27, 1923, to Malcolm Aubrey andOra Bowman Brister.

He was retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, X-10 divisionafter 29 years of service. He also worked for four years at StarSales. He was a member of faithful member of Oakwood BaptistChurch, where he was a deacon and dedicated worker for 50 years. Hewas a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree MasterMason of Burlington Lodge #763. He was a Scottish Rite member.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, all ofMississippi.

Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Katherine Monroe Brister ofKnoxville, Tenn.; his daughters, Nancy B. Peden of Knoxville,Tenn., and Patricia B. DeLozier of Maryville, Tenn.; his son,Malcolm B. Brister of Powell, Tenn.; his brother, Shelby M. Bristerof Bogue Chitto; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; andseveral nieces and nephews.

Claude Quinton Lofton

Services for Claude Quinton Lofton of McComb are 11 a.m.Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb with burial inRamah Baptist Church Cemetery. The Revs Gordon Coker and LonnieCase will officiate the services.

Visitation is Monday from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-11 a.m. atthe funeral home.

Mr. Lofton, 84, died Oct. 2, 2004, at his residence. He was bornin Franklin County on Dec. 21, 1919, to Will and Dolly TillisonLofton.

He was an inspector for Johns-Mansville Company for over 33years. He was a member of Ramah Baptist Church, and attended McCallCreek Baptist Church. Mr. Lofton was also an avid gardener andcattle farmer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Terry Loftonand Ronnie Lofton; and his first wife of 19 years, NettieBrown.

Survivors are his wife, Edith Lofton of Bude; his daughters,Cheryl Pledger of McComb, Judy and Mickey Lang of Summit, and RoseBates of Summit; his son, Jimmy Lofton of Franklin County; hisgrandchildren, Tee Lofton Smith, Jammy Lofton, Terry Morgan, TracyLeger, Denna Fortenberry, Gene Lang, April Lofton, Joe Lang andCody Bates; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Morgan, Gene Lang, Joe Lang, CodyBates, Robert Hall and Mickey Lang. Honorary pallbearer will beJammy Lofton.

Ledora Smith

Services for Ledora Smith of Kansas City, Mo., formerly ofFranklin County, were 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Mt. Olive BaptistChurch, with burial in Byrd Cemetery in Kirby. Marshall FuneralHome is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, 93, died Sept. 26, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn in Franklin County on July 12, 1911, to Hester Scott Grave andBytha Grave.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Grove BaptistChurch, where she was Mother of the Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, A.J. Smith; twodaughters, Evelyn Smith and Claudia Smith; and a son, ArthurSmith.

Survivors are her daughters, Lillie Scott, Adele King and EmmaFranklin; a son, the Rev. James Smith of Kirby; 15 grandchildrenand 26 great-grandchildren.
