Tree trimming leads to local power outage

A tree trimming crew tangled the boom of a bucket truck in power lines Thursday, knocking out electricity to more than 1,000 area customers, including the Brookway Boulevard business district, said Entergy representative Kenny Goza.

The morning outages primarily impacted residences in the vicinity of Highway 51 north and parts of Brookway Boulevard, including Walmart.

About 975 of the 1,031 affected customers had power restored in less than an hour. The remaining 56 customers in the dark needed additional maintenance to the line, but Goza said their power was restored in a couple of hours.

There were no injuries and no utility poles were damaged in the bucket truck incident, Goza said

The trimmers were a crew contracted by Entergy to trim tree limbs hanging over power lines and were working on Highway 51 north, said Goza.

Only Entergy customers lost power due to the Thursday mishap.
