Woman found dead in trailer; authorities consider homicide

Lincoln County authorities are investigating the death of awoman whose body was found Saturday morning in a mobile home at atrailer park just outside the city limits.

The finding at the home on Booker Avenue in Blades Trailer Parkwas reported to the sheriff’s department Saturday around 7:15 a.m.,said Sheriff Wiley Calcote. Mississippi Crime Lab officials were atthe scene later Saturday morning and the sheriff said the death wasbeing treated as a homicide.

“That’s what we think it is, but we’ve got to be sure,” Calcotesaid. “We’ve got to have evidence to back it up.”

Calcote said authorities believe they know the woman’s identity.However, he did not release the name pending confirmation of theidentity and notification of next of kin.

A suspect was brought in to the sheriff’s department and wasbeing questioned late Saturday evening, Calcote said.

The woman’s body was found under a queen-sized bed in a smallroom in the mobile home, Calcote said. The sheriff indicated theroom’s dimensions and the size of the bed made the sceneinvestigation process slow for Crime Lab officials.

“They’ve got to do everything they’ve got to do before we canmove the body out,” Calcote said Saturday morning.

Later, Calcote said there were no visible signs of injury and acause of death had not been determined. He estimated the body hadbeen under the bed “a couple of hours” before it was reported tothe sheriff’s department.

The trailer was owned by several people, Calcote said. Thesheriff said the woman was not one of the trailer’s occupants.
