Rain delays state playoffs

Persistent rain is playing havoc with high school state playoff action in all sports. Thursday and Friday’s MHSAA State Tennis Tournaments have been postponed until next week, May 14-15, at Ridgeland Tennis Center and Parham Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson.

Softball playoffs have been postponed one day. Bogue Chitto has moved its Class 1A playoff game against Stringer to Friday at 5 p.m., on the Jones County Junior College field at Ellisville Saturday’s game at Bogue Chitto is set for 1 p.m.

In Class 2A, Wesson’s game at Taylorsville has been moved to Friday at 6 p.m. The Lady Cobras will host Taylorsville Saturday at 2 p.m.

In baseball, West Lincoln’s Class 1A state playoff game at Hartfield Academy in Brandon has been moved to the all-weather field at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson. Game time is 7 p.m. The Bears host Hartfield Saturday night at 7 as the best-of-three series continues.

In Class 2A, Wesson hopes to host Lake tonight at 6 p.m., as scheduled. Loyd Star is set to visit Ackerman for a 5 p.m. test today. The Cobras are at Lake Saturday for a 6 p.m. game and the Hornets host Ackerman at 6.
