Poor shooting from the Sinclair Gymnasium floor and the freethrow line coupled with unforced, costly turnovers, allowed WarrenCentral to sweep a varsity basketball doubleheader from hostBrookhaven Tuesday night.

Lady Viking guard Sh’Quilla Neal fired in a game-high 26 points,along with 5 rebounds and 7 steals. leading her teammates to a50-36 win over the Brookhaven Lady Panthers. Kourtney Davis andGerald Glass combined for 40 points, in a 74-67 Warren Centralvictory over the Brookhaven Panthers..

Brookhaven travels to Lawrence Co. for 3 games, beginning at 5 p.m.with a JV boys game. The varsity girls and boys tip off at 6 and7:30.

Warren Central 50, Brookhaven

The Lady Panthers (4-5) got off to a good star, behind an 11-9first quarter lead. Forward Christen Benson’s basket early in thesecond, gave Brookhaven their largest lead at 14-9.

Coached by Jackie Martin-Glass, the Lady Vikes (2-7) went on a 13-5run to take a 22-16 at the intermission. Neal was instrumental inthe scoring spurt with 12 points.

“Our turnovers and poor shot selection really hurt us tonight,”Lady Panther head coach Freda Craft commented.

Craft’s crew would get no closer than 4 points, at 24-20, early inthe second half on a basket by Tiakara Kelly. The turnovers (26 forthe game) continued to mount, as the Lady Panthers’ deficit reacheddouble-digits.

Kelly paced Brookhaven with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.Audora Hill led off the backboards with 9 rebounds. Benson dishedout 5 assists. The Lady Panthers held a 51-45 reboundingedge.

Warren Central 74, Brookhaven 67

“We have too many turnovers at crucial times during the game,” saidBrookhaven coach Preston Wilson. “We have to do a better job ofblocking out on the boards.”

The Vikings (6-3) led from start-to-finish. Davis (21 points, 6rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals) was on fire with hisinside/outside shooting. Glass, the son of former Ole Missbasketball standout Gerald Glass, had 19 points and 9 rebounds;showed a feathery touch from outside the paint.

Warren Central, coached by Jesse Johnson, led 17-9 after one periodand 29-22 at the halftime break.

Even though the Panthers realized several double-digit deficits,Brookhaven head coach Preston Wilson saw his team whittle theVikings’ lead down to 3 points on several occasions. The latest wasat 63-60 with 2:41 left in the game on a Fred Fairmanputback.

The Viking took advantage of poor free throw shooting and turnoversby the Panthers; closing the game on an 11-7 run.

Fairman led Brookhaven with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Leo Garretttossed in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Keith Johnsonfollowed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The Pantherscommitted 17 turnovers and held a 43-38 rebounding total.

In the JV boys game, Brookhaven posted a 39-35 win over WarrenCentral. Brookhaven got 9 points apiece from Ryan Thibodeaux andGlen Buie. Jesse Johnson led all scorers with 16 points for WarrenCentral.
