Brookhaven Academy wallops Central Hinds

RAYMOND -Center Lindsay Altman sacked 16 points and guard AmySmith added 12 as the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars crushedCentral Hinds 69-35 Tuesday night.

In the varsity boys game, Brookhaven Academy won 54-47, poweredby Paul Coker’s 19 points and Turner Havard’s 17.

The Lady Cougars (4-0) held a 28-17 rebounding advantage, led byAncy Myers with 6 rebounds. Amy Smith and Anna K. Gatlin each had 5assists. Newman had 5 steals.

The first half was decisive as the Lady Cougars roared to a44-12 lead. Coach Barry Gray was able to play his reserves in thesecond half.

Brookhaven Academy resumes play Saturday at Simpson County.Action starts at 4 p.m., with junior high action. Thursday’s datewith Pine Hills has been canceled.

The Cougars (1-0) made a successful season debut under headcoach Dale Watts. Jake Sessums added 9 ponts and 3 assists to thevictory. Coker collected 12 rebounds. Havad had 8 rebounds and 7steAls. Layne Moreton also had 7 thefts.

Central Hinds, also nicknamed Cougars, led Brookhaven 22-18 athalftime.

In junior high action, Brookhaven Academy beat Central Hinds56-16, led by Mallory Logan’s 10 points. Jessie Altman and AbbyWilliams added 9 points for the 3-0 Lady Cougars.

Ten points by Adrian Deviney led Central Hinds in scoring.
