Bogue Chitto girls explode for 13 hits in victory at Natchez

NATCHEZ — Led by Haley Roberts, the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Catsunleashed a 13-hit offensive Monday and whipped the Natchez LadyBulldogs 14-2 in slowpitch softball action. Roberts tripled andsingled as the Lady ‘Cats improved their record to 6-1 on theseason.

“It was a good win for us and the girls played hard,” said BogueChitto head coach Scott Leggett. “We made some great defensiveplays.

“We had chances to score more runs. We are going to have tocapitalize in the future.”

Leggett’s girls plated 3 runs in the top of the first inning andadded 6 more in the third for a 9-0 lead. They pushed home 5 morein the seventh.

Three singles by Dori Hall kept the Lady ‘Cats rolling. ChelseyMiller tripled. Candace Braxton and Candace Avants singled twice.Brynna Wallace and Latoya Braxton also hit safely.

Danielle Sasser (4-2) was the winning pitcher. She struck out 2batters and walked none.

Lesley Butler fanned 2 and walked 9 in a losing cause.

At the plate, Natchez was led by Pearlene Thompson, CaseyChamplin and Porsche Singleton with 2 hits apiece.

In JV action, Natchez downed Bogue Chitto 12-6.Caitlin Owen was the losing pitcher.

“Our junior varsity played hard,” said Leggett. “They did a goodjob, considering they were playing the same Natchez Highvarsity.”

The Lady ‘Cats got a triple and a single from Kelli Howard.Shaquille Burton tripled and Blaine Myers singled.

Bogue Chitto resumes play Thursday, hosting Natchez Cathedralfor a Division 7-1A test. The JV game starts at 5 p.m., followed bythe varsity at 6 on Stan Long Field.
