Loyd Star power forward Tyrisha Patterson has been a dominant force in the post for the Lady Hornets. She was a key member in Loyd Star success in girls’ basketball for past four season.

     Patterson, age 18, is looking to continue her success story as she prepares for the next level, after signing a basketball scholarship with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves.

     In Patterson career stats for the Lady Hornets, she averaged a double-double of 15.24 points and 10.42 rebounds per game. She provided 1.63 steals, 0.47 assists and 0.79 blocks per game.

     On a warm and pleasant overcast Tuesday afternoon, Patterson’s smile lit up the newly renovated coaches lounge in Loyd Star Gymnasium. She was surrounded by her family, coaches and teammates for the special ceremony.

     “I’m excited to get the opportunity to play at the next level,” said Patterson. “I want to learn more and become a better player.”

     Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn’s face lit up with joy as he provided support for Patterson’s big day. “Tyrisha has been a leader for us the past few years. She will be greatly missed next year. I believe she will do really well at Co-Lin because of her strong work ethic and willingness to learn attitude.”

     Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young said he was happy to have Paterson to join his Lady Wolves. “Patterson will really help us in the small forward position with her ability to score and get rebounds. I’m glad to have her join our Lady Wolves team.”

     Patterson plans to pursue a career in sports medicine and athletic training. She expressed her thoughts on the past season and her coach.

     “We had a very good season. We had several players step up and play a key role. Before the season started, I promised them that if they play their role, I would play mine and we will be successful.

     “Coach Vaughn is a great coach who is not just focused on teaching basketball, but giving life lessons. He has taught me a lot through the years and I appreciate it.”

     Joining Patterson in this year’s signing class are Kierra Collins of Franklin County, Ashley Minor of Natchez and Jaleisha Jones of Wayne County. Coach Young stated that he will sign a few more players in the near future.

     Co-Lin was runner-up in the MACJC state tournament and advanced to the second round of the Regional. Young’s team posted a 22-6 record in his 35 year at the helm.
