The Lincoln County Multi-Purpose Building was transformed into”A Whimsical Garden” for the 2010 Krewe of Ceres Charity Ball,which got under way Saturday night.

The tented entrance was flanked by beautiful floral arrangementsand white lights. Once inside, guests were greeted with the soundsof Mother Nature and an explosion of colors. The foyer wascompleted with colorful paper parasols and hanging birdcages. Aquaint stone garden path sheltered by shrubs and illuminated byturquoise lanterns led guests to the main ballroom.

Upon entering the ballroom, guests were drawn into the midst ofan enchanted garden inhabited by large vibrantly coloredbutterflies leaving streams of color in their trails. Lavish panelsof fabric provided a sea of clouds through which the butterfliesdrifted.

The highlight of the ball was the revealing of the 2010 king andqueen and their court. Named Charity Ball royalty were King Dr.James Emory Hall and Queen Anna Christilles Moak.

They were presented to the audience before a backdrop of therich purple fabric. A stunning floral ball and parasols overflowingwith spring flowers and greenery floated over the head’s of theking, queen and their court. The entire stage was framed by twoextravagant floral arrangements of multiple colored roses andgerbera daises.

Guests were treated to a lavish meal, which was featured on twoL-shaped dining tables. The tables were adorned with two customplanters housing more fanciful floral arrangements.

Each dining table was covered with a lime or rose iridescenttable topper and clusters of votive candles cast light on awhimsical rose centerpiece. The tables were finished off withscattered rose petals.

The perimeter of the room was decorated with several palm treesaccented with bamboo wrapped in white lights. The bright pinkup-lights surrounding the room cast a warm glow to the gardenparty.

Dr. James Emory Hall

Dr. James Emory Hall was born in Vicksburg to Dr. Donald StreetHall and Ione Swetman Hall. He attended St. Aloysius School, thenCooper High School where he was valedictorian of his 1967class.

In 1971 Hall graduated with honors from the University ofMississippi, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon socialfraternity and Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He went on to earn hisM.D. degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in1975.

Hall completed his internship at Baylor University MedicalCenter in Dallas, Texas. He then returned to the University ofMississippi Medical Center for his residency in Ophthalmology. In1980 he was admitted as diplomat to the American Board ofOphthalmology.

Hall has served as president of the Mississippi Eye, Ear, Noseand Throat Society, councilor of the Eye, Ear, Nose and ThroatSociety and served as the Mississippi representative to theAmerican Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Councilors. He hasserved as chief of staff of King’s Daughters Medical Center and asstate chairman of the National Eye Care Program.

Hall has served on the board of directors of the University ofMississippi Alumni Association, president of the Brookhaven CountryClub, president of the Lincoln-Lawrence Ole Miss AlumniAssociation, and president of the St. Francis of Assisi ParishCouncil. He currently serves on the board of directors of MedicalAssurance Company of Mississippi.

Hall is a member of the Kiwanis Club and St. Francis of AssisiCatholic Church. He is married to the former Valerie Campbell andthey have three children: Valerie Campbell Hall, Madeleine StreetHall and Samuel Claude Hall. Hall is a past president of the Kreweof Ceres and has served as ball chairman. His daughter, Valerie,served as a maid in 2001 and as queen in 2004. Daughter Madelineserved as a maid in the 2005 court, while his wife, Valerie, was amaid in the 1968 court. Hall is an accomplished tennis player andhe enjoys gardening and golf.

Anna Christilles Moak

Anna Christilles Moak is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. JosephSamuel Moak Jr., of Brookhaven, and the granddaughter of Mrs. JackR. Kersh, of Madison, and the late Robert Dennis Biediger, andJoseph Samuel Moak Sr., and the late Mrs. Moak, of Brookhaven.

Anna C., as her friends and family call her, was a SpecialHonors and Hall of Fame graduate from Brookhaven Academy Class of2006. She was an honor roll student. She was member of the NationalHonor Society, Quiz Bowl Team and Math and Science Team. She waselected as Student Council vice president and served as presidentof the student body her senior year. She was a member of the TrentLott Leadership Institute Class of 2005 at the University ofMississippi. Upon graduation she received the Russ Michael Mangoldand John R. Gray scholarships.

At Brookhaven Academy she played varsity tennis and received theMost Valuable Player award for several years. She was awarded theGeorge Wilkerson Memorial Award by the Mississippi TennisAssociation and she received the USTA Southern SectionSportsmanship Award. She was selected to Mississippi Jr.Davis/Federation Cup twice.

Her community service included being a Big Brother Big Sistermentor and membership in Girl Scouts and Crown Club. She was nameda Les Belle déHospitalite and was selected first alternate inLincoln County’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program.

Moak is presently a senior at Rhodes College from which she willgraduate in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Sheis a four-year letterman on the varsity tennis team. She is anactive member of Kappa Delta sorority having held the offices ofsecretary, rush recommendation chair and new member trainer. Shehas served as a Rhodes Diplomat and is presently a RhodesAmbassador. She is a member of the Southern College AthleticConference Student Advisory Committee. Moak has served as thesecretary of the Class of 2010 Council for the past two years.

Her volunteer activities while at Rhodes include Adopt-a-FriendMentoring at Snowden Elementary, Girl Scouts, St. John’s SoupKitchen and Outreach Ministries.

After her sophomore year, Moak enhanced her liberal artsexperience with a British Studies program at Oxford University inEngland. During the summer of 2008, she received an internship inthe Jackson office of Senator Roger Wicker.

She was presented in 2007 by the Debutante Club of Mississippi.She is a communicant of St. Francis Catholic Church and is activein the Catholic Student Association at Rhodes College. Her specialinterests include tennis, reading and piano.

Moak has recently completed her senior seminar and is concludinghours for her graduation in May. Her future plans include attendinglaw school or graduate school in public health policy.

Moak enjoys close family ties to the annual Charity Ball havingserved as an aide to king and queen in 1999 and as a maid in the2008 ball. Her sister, Rosemary, was an aide in 2002 with herbrother, Samuel, serving as an escort in 2006. Most recently hercousins, Sydney and Whitney, were on last year’s court. Hergrandfather, Joseph S. Moak Sr. was the king of the Harvest Ball in1972.
