Co-Lin splits road test at Coahoma

CLARKSDALE – JaQuandria (GG) Williams scored a game-high 23points and led the unbeaten Co-Lin Lady Wolves to an 83-58 Mondaynight win against Coahoma Community College’s Lady Tigers. Williamswas joined in double digits by Kiara Etienne with 17 points, KeoshaBradley with 12 and Paige Webster with 11.

In the men’s game, Coahoma got 15 points from Patrick Brown and theTigers whipped the foul-plagued Co-Lin Wolfpack 71-58. DemarcusLewis and Tony Payne chipped in 12 points apiece.

Co-Lin visits Northwest at Senatobia Thursday. The women’s gamestarts at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7.

The Lady Wolves (6-0) got 7 rebounds from Kristen Newsome in thelopsided win. They led 36-25 at halftime.

“We felt fortunate to be up by 11 at halftime because we had notplayed very well,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “The firstfive minutes of the second half were the best minutes of offensewe’ve [played all year and that allowed us to push the leadout.”

The Lady Tigers got 18 points from Malea Malone.

The Wolves (3-3) lost leading scorer Marcus Hooten and center TJ.Kosile to 5 personal fouls in the setback. James McCoy scored 11points for Co-Lin and Maurice Williams grabbed 12 rebounds.

Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims said he was disappointed with histeam’s performance. “We started the game with a turnover on thefirst possession and that was the way we played all night. We aregetting no leadership from our sophomores and we are not playingtogether as a team.

“We are going to work hard to fix those problems.”
