Funeral services for Marion Sims Dampeer, of Columbus, are 2p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel inColumbus, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Dr. BobbyDouglas and Dr. Shawn Parker will officiate.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon until the time of the service atthe funeral home.

Mrs. Dampeer, 74, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Baptist MemorialHospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. She was born on Sunday, Aug.25, 1935, in Bay Springs, to Nonnie and Christine MorganSims.

Mrs. Dampeer and her husband, the Rev. Charles R. Dampeer, weremarried for 54 years and during that time lived in severaldifferent cities in Mississippi and Illinois, where he served as aBaptist minister. She graduated from nursing school in Jackson andworked as a licensed practical nurse before returning to college.She attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg and graduatedfrom Whitworth College in Brookhaven with a degree in education.She then taught third grade for many years, retiring in 1990. Shewas active in Woman’s Missionary Union, and the Illinois BaptistAssociation and had been a member of First Baptist Church, sincemoving to Columbus 15 years ago.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her husband, the Rev. Charles R. Dampeer, ofColumbus; her son, Charlie Dampeer and wife, Donna, of Pontotoc;her daughters, Marsha Cosby and husband, Dr. Walter Cosby, ofColumbus, and Cindy Bolin and husband, Kent, of Covington, La.; herbrother, Van Sims; her sisters, Betty Jane Hart, Anna Jewel Brown,Charlotte Salpaw, Hilda Jean Bowman; and her grandchildren, NateCosby, Callee Cosby, Brooks Dampeer, Blair Dampeer, Baylor Dampeerand Breck Bolin.

Pallbearers are Harry Cosby, Cole Cosby, Nate Cosby, BrooksDampeer, Baylor Dampeer and Breck Bolin.
