James Earl Twilley, 84, passed away Sunday night, Jan. 9, 2011,at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 5 until 7 p.m. atGlenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. The memorial service was heldWednesday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Glenwood with the Rev. RonniePurser of Valley Park, officiating. Interment will be heldThursday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. at the New Ebenezer Cemetery in Elba,Ala., under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, with Mr. Twilley’slifelong friend, the Rev. James Adcock of Elba and the Rev. RonniePurser officiating.

Mr. Twilley was born to Wilburn E. and Minnie A. Twilley of Elba,Ala., on June 20, 1926. He was retired from Dorsey Trailers and theUnited States Postal Service. He was a Master Sergeant and veteranof the United States Army, serving in World War II and in theKorean Conflict. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and amember of Valley Park Baptist Church.

Throughout his life, Mr. Twilley resided in both Coffee County andCovington County, Ala.; Panama City, Fla.; and for the last sixyears was a resident of Mississippi. During his residency inBrookhaven, Mr. Twilley was a member of New Prospect Baptist Churchand the King’s Daughters Medical Center Aqua Exercise class, wherehe made many endearing friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, WilliamEthridge Twilley, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; his wife, Clara MoreGrimes Twilley, who passed away in 1960; and his second wife, DorisKing Twilley, who passed away in 2010.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Moore and husband William ofBrookhaven, and Joanne Whitten and husband Larry of Valley Park;one sister, Pat Argroves of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren,William R. Moore II and wife Cindy of Brookhaven, Brandy LeighCannon and husband Jason of Raymond, and Laurie Suzanne Whitten ofClinton; two great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Larry D. Whitten, William R. Moore, William R.Moore II, Jason Cannon and Scotty Evans. Honorary pallbearersinclude Warren Ashmore, Charles Bobo, Charles Fortson, BillyWhitten, Ted Porter, Bobby Braxton, Charles Kerr and ErnestMcKinney.
