Alfred M. Cothren

Services for Alfred M. Cothren, of Meadville, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Aug. 23, at Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church withburial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Griffin, the Rev.Luke Addison and the Rev. David Cothren will officiate. FranklinFuneral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Cothren, 78, died Aug. 20, 2008, in Collins. He was born inFranklin County on July 8, 1930, to Gordie Cothren and FannieTemple Cothren.

He was retired from International Paper Co. after 42 years ofservice. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was amember of Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where he servedas a deacon for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his three brothers; andhis four sisters.

Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Peggy Seale Cothren, ofMeadville; his sons, Mitchell Cothren and wife, Dina, Rex Cothrenand wife, Theresa, all of Meadville, Ronnie Cothren and wife, Amy,of Liberty; his daughters, Janice Wilson and husband, Billy, ofMeadville, and Sherrie McClatchy and husband, Robert, of Natchez; asister, Nellie Rae Andrews, of Summit; his 12 grandchildren; andhis six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Cothren, Mac Cothren, JustinThompson, Todd Thompson, Tanner Cothren, Lail Cothren, JosephMcClatchy and Joseph Cothren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Middleton CreekPrimitive Baptist Church, c/o Johnny Monroe, 9001 Highway 98 East,Meadville, MS, 39653.

Helen Marie Leggett Sheppard

Services for Helen Marie Leggett Sheppard, of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church inSontag with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. with family presentfrom 6 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mrs. Sheppard, 66, died Aug. 17, 2008, at her residence. She wasborn in Sontag on March 23, 1942, to the Rev. James P. Leggett andEstee Martin Leggett.

She was disabled. She was a member of Pine Grove MissionaryBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, DorothyPorter and Armergene Smith; a granddaughter, Donekia Sheppard; hernephews, Rodger Allen and Jermiah Leggett.

Survivors are her daughters, Alice Thompson and husband, Arthur,Jacqueline Woods and husband, J.D., Carol Ann Smith, all ofBrookhaven, Patricia Sheppard and Annette Sheppard, both ofMoultrie, Ga.; a son, Elmer Lee Leggett, of Brookhaven; hersisters, Cola McGee and husband, the Rev. Walter, Myrtis Brown andhusband, Charles, Mary Allen and husband, Malcolm, all of Sontag,Betty Stingley, of Madison, Fannie Black, Clementine Black andhusband, Hollis, and Nicole Martin, all of Brookhaven; herbrothers, James C. Leggett and wife, Marian, of Meadville, JessieLeggett and wife, Deborah, Samuel Leggett and wife, Debbie, all ofBrookhaven, Kenneth Leggett and wife, Mary, and Calvin Leggett andwife, Lula, all of Sontag; her seven grandchildren, her threegreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relativesand friends.
