Bogue Chitto rolls past Lady Jackets

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats captured a 9-6 victory over their Lincoln County rivals, the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets, Thursday night in softball action at Enterprise.

     “We did a good job by getting on Enterprise early in the game,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “I was very pleased with the girls’ effort. We were in scoring position all night, but struggle to finished it out.”

     The Lady Cats (16-6, 4-2) begins their march for a three-peat in the MHSAA State 1A playoff race today. Bogue Chitto will host the Pelahatchie Lady Chiefs for a doubleheader in the opening round. Game time is 5 p.m. If a game three is necessary, Pelahatchie will host it Saturday.

     The Lady Jackets (13-8, 7-1) won the Region 7-2A crown and received an opening round bye. Enterprise returns to action next week as they prepare for the winner of Scott Central/Bay Springs game.

Bogue Chitto 9, Enterprise 6

     The Lady Cats and Lady Jackets provided their softball fans with another fierce battle between two rivals. Bogue Chitto quickly jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings of action.

     The Lady Jackets scratched and clawed back into the game and outscored Bogue Chitto 6-1 in the rest of the game, but fell short at the end.

     Rheagan Welch tossed the win for the Lady Cats with three strikeouts and two walks. Taylor Nelson suffered the setback for Enterprise with no strikeouts and one walk. Relief pitcher, Hannah Moak took over in the third inning and collected three strikeouts and two walks.

     Mattie Avants, Daley Roberts and Adrienne Wallace were the offensive leaders for Bogue Chitto with three singles apiece. Kaylie Crosby contributed two singles. Alexis Givens and Welch ripped a double apiece. Hitting safely were Colby Kirkland and Alana Nettles.

     Kelsey Hux paced the Enterprise’s offense with three singles. Ashley Boyd and Moak provided two singles apiece. Kayla Britt, Samantha Stuart and Kristen Jergins hit safely.

     “We came out flat,” said Enterprise coach Ashley Jones. “We got beat by a good team. We still have plenty of things to work on before our playoffs begin. Overall, I was proud to see the girls overcome their sluggishness and fought back into the game.”

     In JV action, the Lady Cats clobbered the Lady Jackets 12-2. Alana Nettles (5K, 1BB) pitched the win for Bogue Chitto. Kalyn Chemin (0K, 3BB) absorbed the setback for Enterprise.

     Kacey Leggett was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats with a triple. Zariah Matthews and Jonna Savioe singled.
