George Myron Anderson

Services for George Myron Anderson of Brookhaven are noon,Thursday, March 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Church with burial inRiverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Harrigill Funeral Home,with the Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Anderson, 88, died March 24, 2003, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. He was born in Colfax, Ill., on Dec. 5, 1914, toCharles Anderson and Mary McComb Anderson. He moved to Brookhavenfrom Downey, Calif., in 1995.

He was retired as a repairman for Sears Roebuck and Company with33 years service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church.He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 143rd InfantryRegiment, 36th Infantry Division in Italy. He was a prisoner of warin Germany for 16 months. He was awarded the Combat InfantrymanBadge, EAME Medal and three Bronze Stars.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife,Elleanor McGinnis Anderson; his sister, Gladys A. Zellman; and hisbrother, Glenn Anderson.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou McGovern Anderson ofBrookhaven; his stepdaughters, Mary Ann S. Allen of Bellflower,Calif., and Patricia Lynn S. Jones and her husband Jesse ofRidgeley, W. Va.; his stepsons, Jimmy Summerlin and his wifeJohnnie of Bakersfield, Calif.; his nephew, Bill Zellman and hiswife Barb; his nieces, Judy A. Caffiero and Linda A. Abert; hissister-in-law, Mildred Anderson; and seven grandchildren and 13great-grandchildren.

John Paul Benson

Services for John Paul Benson of New Hebron were 11 a.m.,Wednesday, March 26, at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home with burial inStonewall Cemetery in Simpson County.

Mr. Benson, 84, died March 24, 2003, at his residence. He was anative of Lawrence County, the son of William Pearl and Delta SmithBenson.

He was a farmer. He was a member of New Hebron Methodist Church.He was a Marine veteran of WWII. He was a member of the AmericanLegion.

Survivors are his wife, Ora Mae Benson of New Hebron; his son,John Paul Benson Jr. of New Hebron; his daughter, Sherry McCardleof Wesson; and his sisters, Hazle Catt of New Hebron and KatherineHawkins of Jackson.

Sarah Newsome Calcote

Services for Sarah Newsome Calcote of Sontag were 10 a.m.,Wednesday, March 26, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inWanilla Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Eddie Myers conducted theservices. Frank and Margie Calcote and Maggie Lea provided themusic.

Mrs. Calcote, 63, died March 24, 2003, at SMRMC in McComb. Shewas born in Wanilla on Oct. 30, 1939, to Samuel and Minnie KeenNewsome.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Wanilla Baptist Church.Out of the marriage of Sarah and Frank Calcote were born two sonsand one daughter listed below.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Roscoeand William T. Newsome; and her sisters, Ruby Thornhill and BarbaraBoutwell.

Survivors are her sons, James Hugh Calcote of Monticello andRobert Keith Calcote of Sontag; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharonand Steve Buchanan of Monticello; her brothers, Samuel Newsome ofSontag and Joseph Newsome of Brookhaven; her sisters, Margaret RuthPepper and Faye Hibbard, both of Brookhaven, Marie Evans of Biloxiand Pauline Lambert of Wanilla; her grandchildren, Brandy Reid andLauren Parkman, both of Monticello, and Brandon Calcote of Sontag;her great-grandchild, Lee-Ashton Marie Wade of Monticello; and manynieces and nephews.

Monteith C. Smith

Services for Monteith C. Smith of Brookhaven were 11 a.m.,Wednesday, March 26, at New Sight Baptist Church with burial in NewSight Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home was in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Smith, 82, died March 23, 2003, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Kirby on Aug. 10, 1920, to Robert T.Covington and Iva Forrest McLemore Covington.

She was retired from Stahl Urban. She was a member of New SightBaptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, formerpianist, and was a member of the JOY Club and the WMU.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, DonaldSmith; her grandson, Mike Case; her sister, Charlene Boyte; and herbrother, George Covington.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Donis and David Caseof Brookhaven; her nephews, Dennis Boyte of Winnsboro, La. andRobbie Boyte of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, andother relatives.
