Child hit by float, seriously injured

BUDE – A Franklin County second-grader was seriously injuredwhile attempting to jump onto a float during the Bude ChristmasParade Thursday, officials said.

Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said the boy, identified asJeremy Keirsey, was bumped while trying to get on a float duringthe afternoon parade.

“He fell down and the trailer went over him,” Newman said,citing witness accounts of the incident. “It’s very serious.”

Newman said the boy was taken to Franklin County MemorialHospital and then to a Jackson hospital by ambulance.

“He’s hanging on,” Newman said about the boy’s condition.

The trailer rolled over the boy’s chest. The sheriff said it wasvery serious accident.

“Sometimes (floats) don’t keep moving. They do come to a stop,”said Newman, explaining that the accident happened during a pausein the parade.
