Services for Emmit Dickerson, of Summit, are 2 p.m. today, July3, at Moaks Creek Baptist Church in Summit with the Revs. BillyHouse and Mike Alexander officiating. Burial will be in the churchcemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home,and from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Dickerson, 88, died June 30, 2006, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Lincoln County onJuly 14, 1917, to William Walter Dickerson and Clara Belle ReevesDickerson.

A soldier in World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star forheroic actions “above and beyond the call of duty.” He came home tohis wife, Edna Leona Kornegay Dickerson, and together they rearedthree children in a Christian home. His love for the Lord and hisfamily returned to him in love and adoration from his family andclose friends. He was respected and admired by all who knew him. Heserved the Lord as Sunday school teacher, Training Union directorand church treasurer for many years. He was elected as a deacon onFeb. 16, 1958, and served as chairman of deacons.

He was a member of Summit Lodge #231 F. & A.M. He was PastPatron of Auburn Chapter #87 Order of the Eastern Star.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as his health allowed. Healso enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially Ole Missfootball games. He was an exceptional gardener and took greatpleasure in sharing the fruits of his labor with family andfriends. He was a very wealthy man in the things that mattered:love, respect, honor and integrity.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Clarence,Herbert, Fred, Horrace, Hollis and James Walter Dickerson; hisstepbrothers, Houston I. Pouns and William James Pouns; hissisters, Mary Dickerson, Bessie Lucille Hodges, Alma Leonard, RuthBruner; his stepsisters, Essie White, Lillian Dickerson, RuthMcDaniel and Bennie Fisher.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Edna Leona KornegayDickerson, of Summit; his sons and daughters-in-law, JimmyDickerson and Irene, of El Paso, Texas, and Gene Dickerson, andJody, of Gautier; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn D. Stephensand Frederick, of McComb; his grandchildren, Jennifer ChristineRiley, Melanie Dianne Hinton, Christopher Matthew Stephens, MichaelAnthony Stephens, Patrick Lynn Dickerson, Adrian James Dickerson,Christopher Aaron Dickerson and Jeremy Todd Dickerson; his 14great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandchild; hisbrothers-in-law, Edwin and Nadine Kornegay, of Denver, Colo., Davidand Grace Kornegay, of Summit, and Tommy and Louella Kornegay, ofBrookhaven; his sisters-in-law, Lilly Dickerson and Ella Dickerson,both of McComb; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends andrelatives.

Pallbearers are Hal Lyles, Joe Brumfield, Gene Jones, BillyGunther, Jack Rawls and Cotton Johnston;

Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Hinton and the deacons of MoaksCreek Baptist Church.
