BC regains confidence

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Bobcats put behind their two previouslosses and took a 40-29 Region 4-1A win over the Pisgah DragonsFriday night at Troy Smith Field. The Bobcats had suffered a 42-12loss to Stringer and a 61-12 beating by Puckett in their previoustwo region games.

“We got our confidence back tonight,” said Bogue Chitto headcoach Garreth Sartin following the win. “We have to get healthy andstart playing better.”

With the win, Bogue Chitto improved to 6-2 in the division and6-2 on the season. Pisgah fell to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in thedivision.

“I’m proud of our team,” said Pisgah head coach Marc Herrington.”We can hold our head s up. Bogue Chitto is a good team. Avants isan impressive kid. They are big on their front line.”

Powering the Bogue Chitto offense were running back Byron Kerseeand quarterback Seth Avants. Kersee rushed the football 15 timesfor 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. Avants carried 15 times for 118yards and a touchdown.

Pisgah struck first at the 6:11 mark in the first quarter on a1-yard run by Donnell Wilson. David Hamilton kicked the extra pointto give the Dragons a 7-0 lead.

With 5:44 left in the first quarter, Cole Laird broke loose andscored on a 6-yard run to cut the deficit to 7-6 following a missedPAT kick.

The Bobcats struck quick in the second quarter an punched in a6-yard touchdown by Brian Robinson with 10:16 showing. and BogueChitto cut the deficit to 14-12.

With 6:51left in the second quarter, Pisgah scored it second TDon a 5-yard burst by Donatella Luckett. Marcellus Grant fan for the2-point conversion and gave the Dragons a 15-14 lead over theBobcats.

Bogue Chitto fought back to score on a 54-yard run by BrianRobinson followed by a 2-point conversion run by Avants for a 20-15lead over Pisgah with 1:23 remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats opened the third quarter with a quick drive andscored with 11:54 left on a 55-yard run by Kersee. The try for 2points was good as the hosts took a 28-12 lead.

Sartin felt the last scoring drive of the second quarter and theearly score in the third were the keys to the win.

Bogue Chitto scored again with 7 seconds remaining in the thirdquarter on a 1-yard plunge by Cole Laird. The PAT kick failed asthe Bobcats pushed their lead to 34-12.

Pisgah didn’t quit and scored 2 touchdowns in the fourthquarter. Luckett scored on a 9-yard run and Grant picked up the2-point conversion to cut the deficit to 34-21 with 9:15 on theclock.

With 3:58 left to play, Bogue Chitto scored its final TD of thegame on a 6-yard run by Avants. The PAT kick failed as the Bobcatsincreased their lead to 40-20.

The final Dragon TD came with 23 seconds left to play on a4-yard run by Luckett. Grant ran the 2-convesion to cut the deficitto 40-29.

Directing Pisgah with 24 carries for 186 yards was Luckett.Wilson rushed 15 times for 96 yards.

Defensively, Rico Wells led the Bobcats with 11 tackles and asack. Also collecting 11 tackles each were Fred Tillman and Kersee.Austin Jackson made 10 stops. Kevin Brothern finished with 9stops.
