DECATUR — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves fastpitch softball teamremains undefeated with 4-0 record after sweeping a doubleheaderagainst the East Central Lady Warriors Friday afternoon.

Co-Lin rallied to beat East Central 6-5 in the first game andcruised to a 9-5 victory in the finale.

Coached by Allen Kent, the Co-Lin women travel to Scooba Tuesdayto meet East Mississippi for a doubleheader.

Co-Lin 6, East Central 5

The Lady Wolves went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning whenAnnie Selman reached base on an error, stole second base, advanceto third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kayla Crochet.

The Lady Warriors came back to tie it 1-all in the bottom of thefirst.

Co-Lin pushed its lead to 2-1 in the fourth when Crochet smasheda solo home run over the left field fence.

East Central came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifthto take a 5-2 lead over Co-Lin.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Wolves mounted their thirdconsecutive comeback in a row. Crochet was hit by a pitch andadvanced to first base. Erin Douglass and Ashley Sykes hitback-to-back singles to load the bases. With one out, Emily Langleydrove in three runs with a double to right centerfield, givingCo-Lin the lead.

“It was a good road win for us against defending CentralDivision champion East Central,” said Kent. “We showed poise incoming back late but we left nine runners stranded. Errors lost ustwo runs.”

Meleah Brown worked the first six innings. Crochet took over inthe seventh to get the save. She struck out two batters and allowedone hit. Brown scattered 5 hits for three earned runs, struck outfour and walked two to take the win.

“Meleah threw really well for four innings,” stated Kent. “Shegot roughed up in the fifth, but she got them out 1-2-3 in thesixth.”

Contributing to the Co-Lin win with a double and single for 3RBIs was Langley. Crochet had two hits and 2 RBIs. Lauren Smithsingled twice and scored. Hitting safely were Kady King andSelman.

Co-Lin 9, East Central 5

In the second game, the Lady Wolves outhit the Lady Warriors13-7 at the plate.

Co-Lin took a 4-0 lead over East Central at the end of threeinnings. King drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Candace Braxtondoubled to left to score King. Lauren Smith drew a base-on-ballsand Crochet reached base on an error. Brown followed with asacrifice fly to score Braxton. Douglass ripped a double to rightcenter, driving in two more runs.

East Central scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth andfifth innings to tie the game at 4-all.

In the top of the sixth, the Lady Wolves exploded for three runsto take a 7-4 lead. King reached base on an error and AllysonWallace hit a sacrifice fly to advance King to second. Braxtonripped a hit, followed by Lauren Smith with a sacrifice fly to giveCo-Lin the lead. Crocket singled and Annie Selman’s 2-run double toright center to pushed the lead to 7-4.

The Lady Wolves tacked on two more runs in the seventh forinsurance. Langley singled and stole second, then scored on King’ssingle. King stole second and Britnee Smith beat out an infieldhit. King then stole home when Smith was thrown out stealingsecond.

Crochet pitched a scoreless seventh,earning the win (2-0). Sheworked the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up 1 earned run on two hitswith a strikeout and a walks. Caroline Burks, in her first careerstart on the mound, worked 4 2/3 innings and gave up five hits, 3earned runs, struck out two and walked two.

At the plate, Braxton went 3 for 5 on offense with 2RBI and 2runs scored. Douglas followed with two hits and 2RBI. King scoredthree times on a single,a walk and an error, with two stolen bases.Ashley Sykes hit safely.

“We swung the bats pretty good today,” said Kent. “We poundedout 24 hits. We also got effective pitching from three freshmen. Itwas a good day for us.”
