Elmer “Hawk” Smith

     Funeral services for Elmer “Hawk” Smith, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at New Salem Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

     Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.

     Mr. Smith, 82, died July 24, 2012, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Mississippi July 3, 1930, to Allen and Ada Catherine Smith.

     He worked in the oil field/construction and was a member of New Salem Church of Christ. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Rosa Smith Reed, Effie Smith Case, Mildred Smith Case, Bernice Smith Case, Ethel Smith McMillian, Edith Smith Case and twin sister, Elaine Smith Case; brothers, Edgar Lee Smith and James Smith; and in-laws, Ernest and Bernice Smith Britt.

     Survivors are his wife, Betty Jo Britt Smith; son, Elmer Stacey Smith and wife, Debra Montgomery Smith; brother, Allen Smith Jr. and wife, Iris Rudman Smith; three grandchildren, Joshua Allen Smith, Leah Catherine Smith McGehee and husband, Robbie, and Jonathan Micah Smith; five great-grandchildren, Ashlynn McGehee, Braelynn Byrd, Memorie Smith, Braxton Byrd and Lynnleigh McGehee; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
