Panthers thump Jim Hill Tigers

JACKSON — The Brookhaven Panthers grabbed 3 important baseballwins this past weekend, to climb above the .500 mark for only thesecond time this season. Ole Brook defeated Natchez 5-2 andJefferson County 10-0 on Saturday afternoon; at Natchez’s ChesterWillis Field.

In a Division 6-4A makeup game at Jackson’s Battlefield Park,the Panthers smashed the Jim Hill Tigers 18-2 in 4 innings.

With the victories, Brookhaven improves to 10-9 overall and 5-3in the division. Head Coach Randy Spring’s Panthers on a 5-gamewinning streak, since suffering a 2-0 loss to Petal on March26.

“Our confidence level is getting better,” said Spring. “We haveplayed in a a lot of good, close games lately.”

The Panthers travel to South Pike today for a JV/Varsitydoubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m.

Brookhaven 10, Jefferson County 0

Josh Coone (1-2) picked up the win in 4 innings, allowed asingle by the Tigers. He had no walks and fanned 10 JeffersonCounty batters. Zach Watson tossed the fifth, with 2strikeouts.

Watson led the offensive charge with a single and 2 homeruns.Jacob Dunn doubled, tripled and homered. Mitch Pappas had a single,double and a triple. Grant McDonnieal singled and doubled. DariusPerkins singled. Garion Crockett doubled.

John Haywood suffered the loss for Jefferson County, coached byVincent Turner.

Brookhaven 5, Natchez 2

Cole Newell (1-1) authored the win, going 7 innings with a walkand 4 strikeouts.

Perkins and McDonnieal each had a pair of singles. Crockettdoubled. Brandt Hinton singled.

Brookhaven 18, Jim Hill 2

Perkins needed only 4 innings

to gain his third win of the season, against 2 losses. He aidedhis cause at the plate with 2 singles.

Crockett led the Ole Brook surge with a single, a double, ahomer and 8 RBIs. Guy Orr singled, doubled and had 4 RBIs. PaxtonKing doubled twice. Dunn singled twice. Pappas and McDonnieal eachsingled. Hinton doubled.

Ron Jackson suffered the loss for head coach Greg Wilson’sTigers.

“We had a pretty good weekend,” added Spring. “We are in a goodrun now. The team is playing well.”

Ole Brook started the season 1-0, and at one point were 5-9.
