The Brookhaven Academy Cougars host the Amite School CenterRebels Friday night in the final District 6-AA home game of theregular football season. The game begins at 7 p.m.

In other academy action, Copiah entertains district rivalColumbia and Parklane hosts Hillcrest Christian in non-districtplay.

Brookhaven Academy clinched the district titleand home field advantage in the state playoffs after beatingPrentiss Christian 43-20 on Sept. 29. Only the top two teamsadvance from each district to the state playoffs.

The Cougars are ranked No. 5 in this week’s Associated PressClass A/AA/AAA Private School Poll.

Brookhaven (8-1) is 3-0 in the district. ASC (2-7) is winlesswith an 0-3 district worksheet. The Cougars, under first-year headcoach Bo Milton, rolled over Wayne Academy 35-20 last week. ASCfell to district foe Copiah 35-8.

“Amite School Center has improved over last year’s team,” saidMilton. “They play hard. They seemed to be snake bit. They havelost some close games.

“We are playing pretty good on offense and defense too,”continued Milton. “We have been consistent. This is our lastdistrict game and we have the chance to be undefeated in district.It is also senior recognition night.”

In the win over Wayne Academy, Brookhaven senior quarterbackPrice Sessums rushed the football 8 times for 130 yards and scoreda touchdown. Sessums, The DAILY LEADER Offensive Player of theWeek, completed 6 of 8 passes for 130 yards. Corey Dickerson caught5 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Sessums also returned a punt 72 yards for another TD forBrookhaven.

Defensively, Aaron Douglas directed the Cougars with 10 tacklesand 3 sacks. Making five stops each were Bradley Allred and BrandonSmith.

Last year, Brookhaven knocked off ASC 32-12.

Copiah has the opportunity to clinch the No. 2spot in the District 6-AA if the Colonels can put away ColumbiaAcademy in Gallman. Copiah, coached by Mitch Mitchell, improved to2-1 in the district and 4-4 overall following last Friday’s 35-8rout over ASC.

Columbia (4-5, 2-1) knocked off district foe Prentiss Christian46-36 last week.

“Columbia has a real good quarterback and running back,” saidMitchell. They like to run the veer. Their running back is about220 pounds. They like to run it but they can throw it.

“They run a 4 front on defense most of the game but can changebecause of the sets,” continued Mitchell. “Their linebackers do alot of different things. We played a little better last week atLiberty. We have everybody back. We have to protect thefootball.”

In the win over ASC, freshman quarterback Ben Boone rushed 17times for 126 yards and scored 3 touchdowns for the Colonels. NickLambert rushed for 29 yards on 4 carries. Jake Guess finished with4 carries for 21 yards.

Copiah and Columbia did not play last year because of thehurricanes.

Parklane shut out East Rankin Academy 34-0 lastFriday. Coach Charlie Newlon’s Pioneers host the HillcrestChristian Saints in their final home game of the regular season.Parklane is ranked No. 9 in the AP A/AA/AA Poll.

Parklane is 6-2 overall and 1-2 in District 2-AAA Division 1play. Hillcrest Christian stands 4-4 overall and is 1-2 in District2-AAA (Division 2) play after losing to Lamar School Center lastweek.

Pioneer senior quarterback Tyler Cunningham completed 8 of 15passes for 121 yards. Cunningham threw for two touchdowns, rushedfor one TD and a two-point conversion.

Defensively, the Parklane defense was led by Bubba Boggs with 12tackles.

Last season, Hillcrest Christian thumped Parklane 25-3.
