WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves and Lady Wolves had no troubleputting away the Coahoma Tiger teams Thursday night in MullenGymnasium.

In the women’s game, sophomore forward Dominique Whitfieldpowered Co-Lin with 16 points and 7 rebounds on their way to a63-49 win over Coahoma.

Men’s action saw freshman guard Garrick Walker pump in 15 pointsin sparking the Wolves to a lopsided 80-49 victory over the Tigers.Walker nailed three treys in the first half.

Co-Lin plays Monday and Tuesday in the Southwest Tournament.Co-Lin meets Holmes Monday and faces Southern Shreveport Tuesday.The game times at 2 p.m. for the women and 4 for the men each day.Southwest plays Southern Shreveport Monday and Holmes Tuesday inthe late games,

Co-Lin 63, Coahoma 49

The week layoff caused first-half problems with missed shots andlittle rebounding from the Lady Wolves (5-0) as the Lady Tigers(3-4) kept the game close. Coahoma led late until Co-Lin took thelead with 5 seconds left on a field goal from Jalissa Sandifer fora 30-29 lead at the half.

“In the first half, we weren’t patient,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young after the win. “We didn’t get in good reboundingposition. In the second half, we tried to spread it out.”

Co-Lin took control at the start of the second quarter and werecommanding a 12-point, 45-33, lead with 14 minutes left to play.The closest the Lady Tigers came was trimming the deficit to 11points several times but could not make a serious run at the LadyWolves.

“We made a couple of good defensive rebounds,” added Young. “Wecame back and started playing better. I was pleased over our subscoming in and doing a good job. We need to keep trying to getbetter.”

Contributing to the Co-Lin win with 13 points and 4 rebounds wasWhitney Scott. Nikki Williams netted 12 points, grabbed 6 reboundsand had 5 assists. Erica Trahan pulled down 9 rebounds.

For Coahoma, coached by Ira Peterson, Jimisha Washington led theway with 12 points. Scoring 11 points was Kimberly Kerns.

Co-Lin 80, Coahoma 49

The game was close in the opening minutes until the Wolves (4-1)went up 6-4 and never looked back on the Tigers (1-6). At halftime,Co-Lin commanded a 37-26 lead over Coahoma.

“”It was a good win,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims. “It’sfun to get all of your players in the game. Some stepped it up andcontributed. Garrick Walker shot the 3’s well. Wesley Brown playedwell. Dexter Brunson handled the ball well.”

Sophomore forward Greg Truvillion and Brown fired in 14 pointsapiece for the Wolves. Christina Marshall netted 11 points. Topsoff the backboards with 98 rebounds apiece were Truvillion andMarshall. Brunson led with 8 assists.

Coahoma, coached by James Washington, got 11 points fromTravarias Washington and 10 from Antywan Jones.
