Services for Kenneth Alton Buckles of Meadville are 10 a.m.,Saturday, Sept. 4, at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel inMeadville.

Mr. Buckles, 64, died Sept. 1, 2004, at University MedicalCenter in Jackson.

He was a retired engineer for Chevron.

Ellen Felice Johnson “Mimi” Kane

Services for Ellen Felice Johnson “Mimi” Kane of Ridgefield,Conn., are Sept. 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brookhaven.Jowdy Kane Funeral Home in Danbury, Conn., is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Kane, 102, died Aug. 28, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn in Brookhaven on March 16, 1902, to Dr. J.H. Johnson andKatherine McGrath Johnson.

Mrs. Kane traveled to New York, N.Y., where she became thecompanion for a widowed family friend. She enjoyed beingchauffeured to and from the cultural offerings of Broadway andCarnegie Hall. While there, she met and married a young journalist,Sherwin Kane. Mrs. Kane enjoyed equity investing, playing piano,entertaining friends, and car traveling around the country with herhusband and visiting a North Carolina farm that is now a NationalHistorical Site on Mrs. Kane’s side of the family.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.

Survivors are her two sons, Sherwin and Stephen Kane, both ofAshland, Ore.; her five grandchildren; her five greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including PhyllisSpearman and Joan Peyton of Brookhaven, and Jere Clark ofHattiesburg.

Ray Dorman Stokes

Services for Ray Dorman Stokes of Brookhaven are 2 p.m., Sunday,Sept. 5, at Community Funeral Services Chapel with burial inWoodlawn Cemetery in Summit.

Visitation is Saturday from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Stokes, 78, died Sept. 2, 2004, at University Medical Centerin Jackson. He was born in Eldorado, Ark., on Dec. 28, 1925, toGeorge Stokes and Edna Wooley Stokes.

He was a retired signal maintainer for Illinois CentralRailroad. He was of the Baptist faith. He was married for 57 yearsto Mildred Stokes of Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, HelenLofton.

Survivors are his wife; his daughter, Sherry Foster ofBrookhaven; his son, Rodney Stokes of Madison; his brother, GeorgeStokes of Gretna, La.; his grandsons, Anthony Foster and his wife,Cindy, of Brookhaven, and Alex, Aaron and Austin Stokes of Madison;one aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bertha M. Thomas

Services for Bertha M. Thomas of Natchez are 1 p.m., Saturday,Sept. 4, at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in Natchez with burialin the church cemetery. Marshall Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Thomas, 55, died Aug. 31, 2004, at Community Hospital inNatchez. She was born in Adams County on Jan. 31, 1949, to FloydDonald and Luberta Blake.

tart and day-care worker.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter; and twobrothers.

Survivors are her husband, Clarence Thomas of Jackson; her son,Carlton Donald of Natchez; her sisters, Josephine McGee ofColumbus, Ida Culbert of Natchez, Mary Ann Patterson of Natchez,Cleotha Green of Natchez, and Geneva Foley of Natchez; herbrothers, Robert James Donald of New York, N.Y., Willie Donald andCharlie Donald, both of Natchez, David Donald of Nebraska; fivegrandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, otherrelatives and friends.
