Copiah-Lincoln Community College will assist any studentimpacted or displaced by Hurricane Katrina wishing to transferthrough Friday. Limited housing is available on the Wessoncampus.

Co-Lin classes will resume Monday at its Wesson and Natchezcampuses and at the Simpson County Center.

Enforcement plea

Misissippi Attorney General Jim Hood on Wednesday called onother states’ law enforcement agencies to assist Mississippi lawenforcement agencies that were devastate by Hurricane Katrina.

“I am asking our fellow law enforcement agencies at the stateand local levels across the nation to help their fellow officers inthis time of need,” Hood said. “Our local sheriffs offices andpolice offices are in desperate need of vehicles, uniforms andother equipment.”

Keeping in touch

Parents of youths in the care of Mississippi Children’s HomeServices’ CARES and ARK programs who have not been in contact withtheir child since last week’s Hurricane Katrina disaster shouldcall Terry Hight or Shea Hutchins at 1-800-388-MCHS so theirchildren will know of their whereabouts and safety.

“Many of the kids … have not spoken to their parents sincebefore the hurricane, and the ids are extremely worried,” LindsayDrane, development associate for MCHS, said in a news release.”Some very fragile children’s mental health is at stake.”

Insurance info

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners iscoordinating consumer assistance divisions nationwide to assisthurricane evacuees with questions regarding their insurance. Toaccess a list of insurance carriers that have set up disaster hotlines to help their policyholders, consumers may visit the NAIC Website at www.naic.org.

Consumers are encouraged to contact their insurance carriers forassistance with questions about claims or their policies.

I-10 changes

Beginning Wednesday, motorists traveling I-10 eastbound inJackson County were switched over to one lane of I-10 westbound forseveral miles. Motorists should be aware that I-10 eastbound andwestbound will be open to traffic but reduced to one lane each.

“Motorists are asked to be observant and drive slowly whentraveling through the area,” District Engineer Ricky Lee said in aMississippi Department of Transportatioin news release. “Weencourage motorists if at all possible to take an alternateroute.”

Worker relief

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, many businesses andcommunities are working hard to help displaced residents from theGulf Coast and New Orleans find new jobs and new homes. Among themis USDM.net, which has partnered with the Travel IndustryAssociation of America to create and market www.katrinajobs.org, anonline job bank for travel-related job listings and otheremployment opportunities.

As of Sept. 15, job seekers from the Gulf Coast travel industryand other business can visit the site to post their resumes, browsejob listings and read the latest news on employer efforts relatedto Katrina. The goal is to help provide work as quickly as possiblefor those who have been displaced by the storm.

In addition, the Mississippi Restaurant Association has createda displaced worker job bank on its Web site, located atwww.msra.org.

Paychecks ready

All school employees in the districts on the Mississippi GulfCoast who use direct deposit should have been paid Wednesday.Employees who have questions concerning electronic transfers shouldcontact their bank.

Harrison County and Pass Christian school district employees maypick up checks at the Harrison County Central Office, 11072 Highway49 South, Gulfport beginning today from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Gulfport employees may contact the district office at (228)865-1922.

The Hancock County district office is open from 8 a.m. until 4p.m. and may be reached at (228) 255-0376.

Bay St. Louis School district Employees who are paid by papercheck may pick up checks in the parking lot of the Bay St. LouisPolice Station, 310 Old Spanish Trail, from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 2to 4 p.m. through Saturday.

Proper identification is required for all employees wishing topick up paychecks.
