Lincoln Co. meets Laurel in Dixie Youth AAA tonight

HATTIESBURG — The Lincoln County Nationals produced a late,5-run rally in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t overcome theirsix early errors as the Laurel Nationals won 14-11 in Sunday DixieYouth Baseball AAA 10s State Tournament action. Laurel led 10-4 inthe third and owned a 14-6 lead entering the sixth.

“It was a poor defensive night for Lincoln County,” said Head CoachStan Winborne. “We dug ourselves too big of a hole early and couldnot get out of it.”

The Lincoln County Nationals play today against the LaurelNationals, meeting them for the fourth time in the state playoffs.Game time is 6 p.m. at the Larry Doleac Sports Complex field in anelimination game. Kosciusko plays Pascagoula at 8 p.m.

Dawson Zumbro absorbed the loss in pitching relief for LincolnCounty, collecting no strikeouts and two walks. Tucker Watts (4 K,3 BB) was the starting pitcher. Ben Springfield (1K, 0 BB) alsopitched in relief.

Dalton Cummings was the winning pitcher for Laurel providing sevenstrikeouts and eight walks. Evan Bynum picked up the save with onestrikeout and no walks.

Tanner Waldrop conducted the offensive attack for Lincoln Countywith a 2-run homer in the fifth inning. Keith Robinson providedthree singles. Tucker Watts and Dylan Winborne contributed with twosingles apiece. Springfield smacked a double. Dalton Fortado, JoshNations, Wyatt Brady and Dawson Zumbro each had a single.

“We must regroup and get ready to play to stay in the hunt for thestate trophy,” added Coach Winborne.

McCoy Walter, John Mitchell and Patrick Little were the leadinghitters for Laurel with two singles apiece. Peyton Bryan alsocontributed a double. Rassaad Pettis, Garrett Herring and DaltonCummings each hit a single apiece.
