Miller nets 29; BC sweeps Loyd Star

BOGUE CHITTO – Senior guard Darcy Miller pumped in 29 points tohelp lead the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats (3-0) to a 77-61 win overLincoln County rival Loyd Star (0-4) Tuesday night in Bob CalhounGymnasium.

In the varsity boys’ game, the Bobcats (2-1) managed to hold on fora 57-51 win over the Hornets (0-2).

Bogue Chitto resumes action Thursday, hosting a two-day tournament,which will conclude Saturday, featuring West Lincoln, Prentiss andMcLaurin. The Bobcats play Prentiss Thursday night, beginning withthe girls game at 7 p.m., followed by the boys game at 8:30.

Loyd Star is in action Thursday, traveling to Meadville to facedthe Franklin County Bulldogs. Tipoff starts with the girls at 6p.m. Immediately following is the boys’ game.

Bogue Chitto 77, Loyd Star 61

Ashley Bickham provided assistance to lead the Lady Cats with 14points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Josie Porter contributed 13 points,6 rebounds, 4 steals and 8 assists.

“I thought we played well in the first half,” said BC coach ChristiTerrell. “We still have work on our half court defense. Loyd StarNo 23 (Tyrisha Patterson) had a very good game. Loyd Star played ahard fought game. Overall, I am proud of the girls hustle and teameffort.”

Patterson sacked 29 points, grabbed 14 boards, collect 4 steals andblocked 2 shots to lead the Lady Hornets. Erica Smith provided 15points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

“We lost our composure a few times during the game,” said Loyd Starcoach Billy Vaughn. “We have got to learn to keep our cool at alltimes. Overall, that was the best game we played, but we still havework to do.”

Bogue Chitto 57, Loyd Star 51

Emmanuel Magee pumpedin 15 point, collected 3 rounds and dished out 8 assists to led theBobcats. Michael Harris provided 11 points and grabbed 9rebounds.

“My guys played hard and hustled,” said BC coach Jeremy Harrell.”We are trying to get our football players settled in, but I amexpecting us to have a very good season. Tevin Tobias and GermieMartin did a very good job coming off the bench to play somevaluable minutes and made some key shots to help us win.”

Terion Williams was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 17points and crashed the boards for 9 rebounds. Zach Smith netted 14points and collected 7 rebounds.

“I thought we played well,” said Loyd Star coach Gene (Moochie)Britt. “We missed some key shots and free throws down the stretchthat could change the direction of the game. It also hurt us thatwe got in early foul trouble. Overall, my guys are maturing veryquickly and they are not giving up. We are getting the experienceneeded to help us get better as the season progresses.”

In junior high action, the Lady Hornets cruised to a 40-19 victoryover the Lady Cats. Victoria Cupit and Raigan Smith led Loyd Starin scoring with 9 points apiece. Christian Black pumped in 11points for Bogue Chitto.

In boys’ action, Loyd Star edged Bogue Chitto 32-29. Dorian Beardnetted 13 point to lead the Hornets. Zac Dillion was the leadingscorer for the Bobcats with 11 points. LaQuan Gee provided 10points.
