Enterprise girls sack Wesson

The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets managed to hold off theWesson Lady Cobras’ fourth quarter rally to take a 56-47 victory inthe semifinals of the Region 6-2A Tournament Thursday night at LoydStar Gymnasium.

In other girls’ action, the Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs had to fightoff a tough Madison St. Joseph Lady Bruins team to capture a 57-47win.

Tournament action continues today as Wesson entertains St. Joe inthe girls’ consolation game at 4 p.m. Hinds AHS battles Enterprisein the girls championship game at 7.

The finalists have qualified for the opening round of the MHSAASouth State Playoffs that begin Monday, Feb 14. Each team isbattling for a good playoff seeding. Enterprise and Hinds AHS willhost South playoff games Monday while Wesson and St. Joe must playon the road.

Enterprise 56, Wesson 47

Basketball fans got to witness a classic bout in the opening gameof the semifinals between two rival teams battling to representtheir school Friday night in the championship game.

The Lady Jackets and the Lady Cobras took turns claiming the leadthough out the game, before Enterprise managed to capture a 10point lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Cobras refused to give up and battled back in the fourthquarter. Wesson used their pressure defense to cut Enterprise’slead to 2 points with two minutes left in the game but could notcome closer. The Lady Jackets used time management to drain theclock and preserve the win.

Senior guard Karla Beth Hux knocked down a game-high 20 points tolead the Lady Jackets (13-16). Veonka Sander provided adouble-double with 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Moakcontributed 10 points.

“My subs came in and did a good job for us when some of ourstarters got into early foul trouble,” said Enterprise coach JillNations. “We are definitely playing well together as a team.”

Junior guard Madison Rials was the leader for Wesson with ateam-high 14 points. She also grabbed 6 rebounds and collected 4steals. The Lady Cobras (9-14) are coached by Rusti Magee.

Hinds AHS 57, St. Joe 47

The Lady Bulldogs (20-6), coached by Bruce Baker, were led inscoring by freshman guard Erica Harris with 19 points. EugenaGrigsby contributed 17 points and Leanna Washington added 11.

Corbin Divinity pumped in a game-high 22 points to lead the LadyBruins (13-13). Arianna Cargin knocked down 14 points.
