John H. ‘Baby’ Stewart

Services for John H. “Baby” Stewart, of Waco, Texas, were heldon Saturday, Aug. 25, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Waco,with burial in Doris Miller Memorial Park in Waco.

Mr. Stewart was born March 7, 1934, in Waco, to James and VeraStewart. He joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age, andlater in life, attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

He attended A.J. Moore High School and served in the UnitedStates Navy for four years. He later moved to Chicago, Ill., wherehe lived for many years. After returning to Waco, he worked forBaylor University for many years until his health failed.

He married Augustine Roberts, of Jackson, on April 24, 1981. Shewas a loving wife and stood by him faithfully. She was hiscaretaker during his illness; when you’d see one, you’d see themboth. The couple were true believers of God and the power ofprayer.

Preceding him in death were six brothers; one sister and agrandson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 26 years,Augustine Stewart; his daughters, Margaret Williams, of Waco,Hattie and Sharon Stewart, of Dallas, and Shannon Stewart ofChicago; his son, Robert Drake; his sisters, Carrie Combs, of LosAngeles, Calif., and Nancy Owens, of Waco; his brothers-in-law,Virgil Roberts and wife Cora, and Luther Bernard Roberts, all ofBrookhaven, and William Owens, of Waco; his sisters-in-law, RubyStewart, of Dallas, Katherine Tillman, of Brookhaven, and JaniceSmith and husband Robert, of Jackson; his half brothers, GregJackson, James Edward Jackson and Larry Jackson, all of Waco; hisfour grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and fivegreat-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

His grandsons served as pallbearers and three nephews werehonorary pallbearers.
